ALTRA OUR BRAND

OUR BRAND

Altra Running was founded on an innovative approach to running shoes. An approach that took us from the back room of a specialty running store to the front of the pack on roads and trails across the world. With innovation at our forefront, our founders created our first shoe with the help of a toaster oven. This was the start of our signature shoe construction to help you move naturally and has kept our brand going for a decade while aiming to keep you running for a lifetime.

ALTRA OUR PURPOSE

OUR PURPOSE

Unleashing human potential by inspiring the world to move naturally is what Altra Running is all about. Our purpose is built around discovery, joy, responsibility, natural movement, and finding your potential.

ALTRA OUR INNOVATION

OUR INNOVATION

Our wide-lacing system inspired our signature FootShape design to encourage natural movement. While a household toaster oven inspired our founders, FootShape and Balanced Cushioning has inspired thousands of people to unleash their human potential. That’s the foundation of Altra Running: innovative, disruptive thinking.

I love the brand and all 4 different design pairs of the shoes that I currently own. I have to say be cautious of ordering black shoes because I've order these and the Escalante 4 in black and both have come in dark grey. I still love them. They just don't know their colors.

When I first played tennis in the Altra XT 1, I moved better than I ever had before. The ability to feel the ground through my feet was unparalleled in that shoe, and it was so light I felt like I was floating. The XT 2 was a sidegrade. It was heavier and clunkier than the XT 1, but also more durable, which was a reasonable trade-off for a sport played on concrete. It was still lighter and swifter than all the other tennis shoes on the market, which was great.Critically, all generations of Altra XT have allowed me to play with my toe spacers in. I've dealt with toe and heel issues in the past. Playing in Altras with toes pacers has completely healed them. My toes feel absolutely nothing anymore, and my heels and plantar fascia are completely healthy as well. I can easily slide on clay, and the shoes allow sliding on hard-court, I just don't because I don't trust myself. The XT 3 has a slightly firmer soul. This slightly hinders connection with the ground, and I need to experiment more to see if this leads to more lower body fatigue for me over time. From my experience, these run bigger than the XT2, so I’m going to drop from 11 to 10.5 and see if that prevents some of the intra-shoe sliding which has caused me some minor ankle pain.Last with the XT3, the durability appears better. The toe on the hitting side is the limiting factor for most tennis players (right toe for me). That's the spot on the shoe that is constantly being loaded. It rips through eventually, and all of the sudden your naked toe is hitting the concrete. They redesigned the front toe guard area in both the XT2 and the XT3, and it looks like this third generation is the best. It's some sort of mesh, and after playing in these for about 8 hours already, there barely appears to be any wear. The soul underneath, similarly, is still looking fresh. After even just 8 hours in the XT2 I'd already start noticing visible signs of the guard and sole wearing down.
