You want a sturdy, stiff, well-weighted metal ruler? Buy Alumicolor! I had been using another well-known brand for years, but never liked how flimsy they felt. Bought my first Alumicolor ruler and was converted. I have since purchased most of the sizes I commonly use (12" / 18" / 36") and have thrown away all inferior measuring devices from my house. I suggest you do the same - It's invigorating...

I have a few of these and I checked them against a tape measure and a precision 12" scale and I'd say they are at least as accurate as a good pencil line can use. The only thing I'm not thrilled about is Zero is not at the end. I use the centering and non-centering side. Not a big problem for me as I used my belt sander to put Zero at the end.
