Blade features
Made of 12-gauge, heat-treated alloy steel, the beveled 15-inch blade makes short work of roots and dense soils.
Turned foot step
A turned step increases the surface area for your foot when digging to maximize control.
All-steel D-grip handle
We powder-coat our 27-inch D-grip handle in our signature orange color for rust resistance and high-visibility. The D-grip design allows for maximum control during use.
Flat back design
Our all-steel spades feature a flat-back design which adds strength and rigidity while preventing soil build up as you dig.

The key to this shovel is it's weight. The additional heft this spade has over box store spades makes all the difference especially in areas where roots are constantly in the way. This pretty much cuts through roots a couple inches wide which is so helpful. I don't have to look for an axe in most cases because one or two good strikes can get through most of the roots that would stop a typical spade...very useful for shovel power users.

Shovel is a beast--tough. This is a top of the line shovel, however, I found the D-handled 15 inch shovel was very awkward ergonomically for my height 5'8". I returned the shovel (AM Leonard customer service was very polite and helpful) and expect to replace with a straight handled 13 inch blade.

Had bought a Fiskars all metal, except the plastic handle, shovel years ago and it lasted a while till the handle started slipping off and the blade of the shovel began flexing. This shovel, I believe, will last a lifetime. Good solid all metal construction. Thieves usually won't steal "working" tools, but this thing is so nice I keep it locked in the truck with dark tinted windows.
