The AmScope B120B compound binocular microscope has pairs of 10x widefield and 20x widefield eyepieces, a forward-facing nosepiece with four DIN achromatic objectives, Brightfield (BF) LED illumination, a 1.25 NA Abbe condenser, and a double-layer mechanical stage. The Siedentopf binocular head has interchangeable pairs of 10x widefield and 20x widefield eyepieces with 53 to 77mm Siedentopf inter-pupillary adjustment, a fixed 30-degree vertical inclination to reduce eye and neck strain, and a 360-degree rotation capability to provide a more comprehensive view and enable sharing. Dioptric adjustment accommodates individual eye-strength differences. The forward-facing nosepiece has 4x, 10x, 40xS (spring), and 100xS (spring, oil) DIN achromatic objectives that combine with the eyepieces to provide color correction of magnified images at eight magnifications. The 40xS objective is spring loaded to prevent slide damage when focusing. The 100xS spring-loaded oil objective provides increased resolution over a standard objective. A compound microscope is used for inspection and dissection of specimens when two-dimensional images are desired.

The microscope has lower (diascopic) Brightfield illumination that transmits light up through the specimen for enhanced visibility of translucent and transparent objects. Brightfield (BF) illumination allows the specimen to absorb light, resulting in a dark image on a light background. LED illumination provides bright, cool light for working with temperature-sensitive or live specimens. The 1.25 NA Abbe condenser can be adjusted to control the distance of the light from the stage and has an iris diaphragm to optimize the amount of light illuminating the specimen. The double-layer mechanical stage, with 1mm stage divisions, locks the slide into place and provides precise slide manipulation along the X- and Y-axis to allow coordinates to be recorded, enabling the viewer to return to a specific location on the slide. Separate coarse and fine focus knobs speed focusing. The enamel-coated cast-steel body is durable and resistant to stains and corrosion.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

United Scope manufactures microscopy equipment and accessories under the brand name AmScope. The company, founded in 1996, is headquartered in Irvine, CA.

Blown away by this microscope. The quality is amazing. It is solid and made from quality materials with several adjustment. I've only looked through >$1000 microscopes a few times, but quality of the optics reminds me of what I saw with those expensive models. And I've managed to capture stunning images using only my cell phone (pine stem 200x, a cat hair, pine stem 2000x, human blood cells). It's a little tricky to take the shots but it is certainly possible. The only thing about it I am not sure about is the delayed start of the light source. When I first turn it on, the light comes on a few seconds later. I think this is on purpose, but I don't know why.

Env. Sci. major, with a passion for bio. and microscopy. Went out on a limb and picked this unit unable to wait to save $1500 for a "good" one. Great scope for the price, works well and condenser unit lets me see stuff without staining slides. Bio 2 prof called it a "cute" scope upon looking at it then said it was a good pick up as she looked at spores side by side with an Olympus with minimal differences. I can tell it is not the same quality as the high end scopes for research at the university, duh, but for looking at stuff for fun, a portable field scope, a practice scope for up and comers and nerds like me it's great. I can't attest to the longitivtiy of the scope but it is built well and works well out of the box. First glance 2 weeks of use pros /cons. First pros- cheap, works well, condenser lets me see stuff swimming in water samples, 2 sets of oculars, led light is awesome, packed with enough styrofoam to absorb a large impact. Cons- smells terrible from materials out gassing like rancid oils and machinery, some reviews say that if there is a problem it's hard to get it returned( didn't have to deal with that), the product box (not the shipping box) was smashed indicating that the product fell or was crushed, there was a scratch on the front (I didn't care but just stating) and my favorite con is now that I have my own scope I waste a lot of time looking at everything under the sun. My homework is seriously suffering and I didn't even know how many bacterial, worms or previously classified protist hang out on stuff like algae in my fish tank. Also this scopes oculars makes it easy to take pics and videos using your phone. It also makes professors nuts asking what is "this" thing all the timeAttached pic is of a single strand of algae at 40x with 20x ocular only pic on phone after photo dump yesterday

I am a cytologist and for the money this is a great little scope to teach my kids with. It has a great adjustable light source, decent oculars ( also adjustable), magnifications are great, and focusing mechanisms work well. I recommend this for anyone. Very satisfied.

Bought this product for a college course. I paid extra in order to have a stereoscope view. This unit does not adjust small enough for me to look through both eyes. Other than that it was good enough for what I needed it for. I never used the oil immersion head. The two stage was nice. I tried someone else's microscope that was a sub $100 one. It was awful compared to this product.

I purchased this microscope as a requirement for a college biology course. They recommended another scope with rudimentary features and less power for roughly the same price. After doing quite a bit of research and narrowing it down to two with the specific features I wanted, I contacted Amscope for help. They were both amscope microscopes at the same price. I was steared towards this model because it had better features such as the mechanical stage and binocular viewing. Needless to say this is a fantastic microscope that gives quality imaging for all slide I have had to create and examine through this course.

Disappointment is what I feel. I had ordered another model AmScope microscope and when it arrived I was happy until I turned it on and the Led illumination didn't work so it was returned and this better model ordered. I was very pleased. The shipping was perfect as was the microscope. I ordered the accessories (stains, camera, prepared slides, blank slides,etc.). I enjoyed using the microscope until the next day when the Led flickered and went out. Checked everything to no avail. Packed it up and returned it and ordered another. If there are problems with the new one when arrives I will totally give up on AmScope. Why would something so simple as a Led light be so difficult. I have a $2.00 Led flashlight that has been working for 5 years. Two bad scopes in one week is disappointing to say the least. I will update this review laterRevised 4/6/2016I've now had this microscope for 3 1/2 months with absolutely no problems. I don't know what the problems were with the 2 previous microscopes but this latest one is great. I am retired and just enjoy viewing things. I've bought a T-mount for my Nikon camera and can now take photos and videos.
