The AmScope PS50A microscope slide set includes 50 prepared slides of a variety of biology and pathology slides used in basic biology education. The samples are preserved in cedar wood oil and sealed with a coverslip to preserve specimens and prevent contamination. Labeling on each slide identifies specimens. Slides are composed of optical glass for clear viewing and are 3 x 1 x 0.4 inches/75 x 25 x 1mm (H x W x D, where H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) The set comes in a fitted wooden case to prevent breakage and ease handling.

Microscopes are instruments used to enhance the resolution of an object or image. Types include compound, stereo, or digital. Compound microscopes use a compound optical system with an objective lens and an eyepiece. Stereo microscopes show object depth in a three-dimensional image. Digital microscopes are used to display an image on a monitor, rather than looking through a lens. Microscopes can have monocular (one), binocular (two), or trinocular (three) eyepieces, with varying magnification abilities. Magnification ability refers to the size of an image. Resolution, also known as resolvant power, refers to the clarity of the image. The interaction between field of view (FOV), numerical aperture (NA), and working distance (WD) determines resolution. Microscopes can control magnification through a fixed focus, or through a range of adjustments. They can also utilize LED, fluorescent, and mirror light sources to help control viewing capabilities. Microscopes are widely used in education, lab research, biology, metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, manufacturing, and in the medical, forensic science, and veterinary industries.

I've been a lab scientist for nearly 30 years, and these are good slides. I finally put these under the microscope last week when my granddaughter came over...she's a little 7-year-old brainiac. They are very beautifully stained and colorful. I've made biological slides myself with mounting medium and it can be a mess, but these are great with no bubbles trapped under the cover slips, nice thin sections, not smashed or distorted....beautifully stained. Very neatly labeled. Great sample of various 'things to look at'. No sharp edges on slides.In no time, granddaughter was taking them out of the very nice quality wooden slide box, putting them on the scope, and putting them back when she was done. She looked at different structures in stem sections of different types of plants, stomach lining cells ( I explained they were 'wavy' so they would have more absorption surface) and insect parts. I skipped explaining the life-cycle of the Ascaris egg. As I said, all of the cross sections were extremely crisp with no distortion and beautifully stained. Definitely professional and well-done.A lot can go wrong when making slides...these were clean and very well prepared. This is a great option for teaching because there is no mess!!

I purchased these slides for my 9 year old daughter for this Christmas; however, I took the liberty of taking them out of the box and "playing" with them for a good while to check out their quality. This is really an excellent set of slides that provides a good mix of biology and pathology slides of plants, insects, and animals. I actually am pleasantly surprised by the quality of the prepared slides, particularly since the price wasn't that expensive when you really look at prepared slides. The value and quality well exceeds the cost of these particular slides.Each slide is labeled with what it is showing, and is numbered according to the slot in the box, and a provided piece of paper supplied in the box. My paper wasn't attached to anything so I will have to laminate it or else it will be destroyed in less than a week. You get what you are looking at in the picture, and what is described. If you are interested in additional information on WHAT the slides portray, as far as why a particular thing is shaped the way it is, you either have to look at another source or just look it up on the Internet.As far as the wooden case, it seems to be of solid construction, but I haven't had it long enough to honestly review it's durability.Overall, I am extremely pleased with these slides. Now I have a Microbiology/RN back round so I may be slightly biased in my review, but I would really recommend these slides. I definitely would purchase them again without hesitation.

Excellent quality and everything we wanted. We have a young boy who we want to bring a little closer to the concept of the micro world. These slides have been a very good tool in helping us do that. The effort that had to have been put into making these had to be amazing and that makes this an incredible value.

As this product was purchased as a gift, and I don't own my own microscope, my review is only in regards to the general appearance of the product. It arrived well-padded and in good condition. The slides are individually identified, arranged in alphabetic order, and appear clean and well-prepared. An alphabetically-arranged list is included. Nice wooden case with foam padding on underside of lid keeps the slides snugly in their slots. I'd give this 5 stars for outward appearance, but had to rate it as a 4-star without the benefit of viewing them with a scope.

The slides arrived and were all intact inside a nice wooden storage box (My biggest fear was that some might arrive broken, but fortunately that did not happen.) The slides were all high quality and I would have given this set a 4 or even a 5 star rating, except that every slide had greasy fingerprints from whomever last handled them prior to packing and shipping. We had to sit and individually clean each slide prior to viewing. AmScope should require that the slides be cleaned prior to packing, and that gloves be worn by those workers handling them.

We have an 8 year old Granddaughter that amazes her parents and us time and again. We bought the AmScope 40-1000 Microscope and these Slides together and when she opened this gift from Santa Clause she hooked it up right away and that is all she wanted to do, just look at slides. Oh and BTW her Daddy was about as thrilled with it as our Granddaughter and could hardly wait to get it home so he could hook it up to Her computer and they could all look at the slides together and also make some of their own. Santa Clause really out did himself this year and although this slide set and the AmScope cord / cordless Microscope list 10 years old / older, it is just fine for many children that are a little ahead of average. I will leave this same review for the AmScope 40-1000 Microscope.

The slides are cheaply prepared with a ton of glue on them. They are cloudy under the lens and it impairs the visibility of the specimen. The slides are covered in stain; if you try to wipe them with a moist cloth it stains the cloth blue but does not wipe off; the rag sticks to them as if covered in glue. Unusable.

Most of these slides are like the same thing. There's little variation in the slides. I bought them for my 8 year old's new scope. But they don't hold his interest. I would look elsewhere.
