At first they seemed too hard and felting needles could break. They soften with use and don’t break down the way foam mats do leaving little foam pieces in the work.

These needle felting pads are the real deal, not foam. My wife teaches felting, buys these as part of a kit she provides the students. Pads are wool, but not barbed, so nothing sticks in it except needles. A great deal.However, they advertise as 1-day delivery - more like one week. Still worth it.

I purchased these for needle felting. They are probably perfect for 3D sculptural needle felt projects but a little too firm for flat “painting with wool” type projects, imo.
