How to choose the right heater for your aquarium?
There are three elements to consider to determine the right heater for your aquarium size:
- Room temperature
- Aquarium water volume
- Desired temperature.
Most aquarium experts recommend that you determine your heater’s power in terms of watts per gallon (WPG). Typically, you will need around 2.5 to 5 watts per gallon in your tank.
So, for example, a 10-gallon aquarium would need a 25- to 50-watt heater.
Still, this is only a rough estimate—you will also need to consider the room temperature to make an accurate calculation.
If your room temperature is low, you will need a larger heater to raise the water temperature in your tank—a cold room may require more than 5 watts for each gallon of water.

At first I was skeptical because there was a hot spot on the outside of the heater after a week or 2. But when I cleaned the tank I just used a knife and scraped it and it all came off. I like the digital screen for reading the temperature and it seems to work as expected.

I bought the 25 watt heater and I've been using this heater for over a month now and I must say that I'm very impressed. I've been checking it with a separate thermometer and it is holding the temperature of my 5 gallon Betta aquarium within .2 F (not 2.0 F I'm saying its within .2 F) of my set temperature of 78 degrees in In my 40 years of keeping fish I've never had a aquarium heater that was able to keep the temperature of the water this stable. The new technology this heater uses for sensing water temps definitely works well.Here are some tips from my observations and use of this heater and some tips from my 40 years of fish keeping.1. My first heater I got was defective, I had it replaced like others did and the new one I got was amazing. If you get a defective one don't give up, return it and the replacement will likely be great.2. Make sure you get an adequately sized heater. Current wisdom is to get a heater AT LEAST 5 watts per gallon. So if you have a 10 gallon aquarium you need at least a 50 watt heater. If you like to keep your house cold buy a larger wattage heater. My 25 watt heater works great for my 5 gallon aquarium.3. Buy a spare heater, these things fail at times and having a spare will keep your fish alive.4. Always check your heater with a separate thermometer to ensure it is keeping the water at an accurate temperature.5. This heater may show inaccurate temperatures when the red light is on and it is activating the heating circuit. Mine does this. I was alarmed about this at first but after watching it in operation and checking it with a separate thermometer I determined it was keeping the water temperature very accurate.When the green light is on it is sensing the water temperature and it will be accurate.In time I will update this review with the heaters long term reliability.

Waited a week to say if I got a lemon or not and apparently it works as directed. Just click the only available button to set desired temperature and it goes to work. Once it gets to the desired temperature, the little red light will turn to green. I’ll keep you posted if my house burns down; but so far so good. I feel confident with the quality of product so hopefully I have nothing to worry about.

Seems to suddenly stop working for hours at a time, enough for my tank to drop out of the ideal temperature zone at least once a day. The black cap on the bottom also randomly fell off overnight and I had to take the piece out in the morning. Still keeping my fish alive but I'm planning to upgrade to something more high end.Update: The heater fully stopped working sometime within the last month, thankfully I keep my house fairly warm so it hasn't become an issue yet and I should be able to get another in time. It is overpriced, poorly designed, and the suction cups don't stick well. I don't recommend purchasing this product.

I have 5 of these in various sizes. They are small compact easy to hide and keep all my fish and shrimp happy throughout the winter. So far my oldest ones are about two years old now so there is some longevity to them.

Nice display lets you know that it’s on and it shows the current temp.Get two of these and you can match water temps for those big water change days.Very helpful to have the display, nice and compact, not a huge heater. Well worth the $

The product is garbage. Does not work. After setting the temperature, the display reading quickly rises to the set temp, then shuts off, but the displayed temp keeps rising. Never actually heats the aquarium. Heater keeps rising to the desired temp then just shuts off. Faulty temperature setting. Waste of money and time. Avoid this product, serious quality control issues.
