Arducam 12MP IMX708 Color HDR Camera Module 3

Arducam Camera Module 3 delivers high-quality images with its 12MP IMX708 image sensor and HDR mode for up to 3MP output. Equipped with a 75° DFOV Autofocus Lens, PDAF, and 2D DPC, this module offers exceptional SNR.

The camera module is native to Raspberry Pi and compatible with Bullseye OS and libcamera command. It is also compatible with Raspberry Pi 3, 4 A/B, and Zero.

The official IMX708 Camera Module 3 can be used on Raspberry Pi directly (B0306, B0307). Arducam Camera Module 3 will need some modification on configuration, please refer to the following content:

Please make sure you are running the latest version of Raspberry Pi OS. (January 28th, 2022, or later releases, Debian version:11(Bullseye)).

1. For Bullseye users on Pi 4, please do the following: sudo nano /boot/config.txt

Find the line: camera_auto_detect=1, update it to: camera_auto_detect=0

add the line: dtoverlay=imx708

Save and reboot.

I use this camera for a fun little side project, detecting hand gestures, and performing actions through the raspberry pie based on those gestures. the quality of image is probably comparable to like a iPhone seven or eight but keep in mind that they're just images and there isn't any magic settings prebuilt in when you take a picture with it like there is with an iPhone. something like that would have to be done processing all all fun for little projects super lightweight and a bit fragile, but there are several cases online, you can mount this too.

Just installed camera module 3 on my raspberry pi 4 tonight it's working great. Youtube videos helped. Upgraded OS to bookworm v12 yesterday, just needed edit 2 lines in config.txt. Have used raspberry pi 4 a bit in past - first time with camera. Took a test photo and viewed in image viewer. I plan to write Python take photo for driveway alert email. Had tried ESP32 5MP camera. Camera module 3 color and photo detail are much better. Very happy I chose this camera.

I originally was using a Raspi fixed cam but the image quality was not all that great Picked this up and it made a big difference to the pic quality and it showed. I use this in a special event photobooth using a Raspi touch screen and LED lighting and everyone had a blast using this

Using with a Pi 4 running bookworm (12) and half the time libcamera-still fails with error:dmaHeap allocation failure for rpicam-apps0ERROR: *** failed to allocate capture buffers for stream ***Have been through the trouble shooting guides, allocated more cma (512M) but makes no difference.The image quality when it manages to capture an image is very good and I’ve therefore given three stars.The issue with reliably capturing an image can be got around by using a script to keep trying until success, which suits my use case, but is not ideal

Be Warned!!!This is a warning to any who want to use a Pi Zero W or Pi Zero 2W with this cameraI am so disappointed. I have contacted the distributor/manufacturer over in Honkers and told them that this camera's included cable is ONLY suitable for standard Pi camera ports. It is TOO WIDE and CANNOT fit the smaller 9mm wide Pi Zero 2W SBC.Probably perfectly fine for a Pi 3/3B/4 etc and the specs suggest that it is a good camera but I have a very specific use for this using a Zero, so I have done my money cold.I guess if the distributors/manufacturers included an additional cable that connects between a Pi Zero W and this camera then all would be okay. Otherwise these cables (with narrow connector both ends) are difficult to find. In fact, I can't find one online anywhere.There is an adapter board that would suit and I've seen one on a YT video but nowhere else.
