I received this modem to replace a much older one. I hooked it all up and attempted to contact comcast to hook it in to their system. Here is where things got frustating. I called the number in the documentation and after getting bounced around from automated support area to automated support area I was told to power off for 10 seconds and power it back up and then recontact Comcast. Which I did. As I was waiting I opened a browser and there was a page for comcast to get their mobile app for my cell phone. So I installed the app. Long story shortened after 15 minutes of going through the app they connected me with customer support. Mind you all of this is being done in text on the phone. I hate texting at the best of time. SHould only be used if your partner needs you to pick up milk on your way home from work 30 minutes later they said it would take 30-45 minutes for the system to recognize the modem and I should expect a call in an hour from comcast. This was 2:35pm. Well, 75 minutes later things were finally working. By 9pm I still hadn't received any phone call. I do not fault Arris for this. There product appears to work well. Much stronger wi-fi signal in the house so no complaints there. In conclusion A+ for the Arris modem. D-/F for Comcast/Xfinity tech support. Money value also A+. I won't and can't fault the product for Comcast's bad tech support.

I don't like renting equipment adding to an already outrageoug bill. The Router-modem I had purchased years ago was no longer compatible with the higher speeds of Xfinity's service. This one was easy to install, affordable and compatible. It can also accomodate voice "phone" as well. Owning one's own equipment pays for itself in the "short run".

Modem would not work on Xfinity network. Tried two different modems, but simply wouldn’t connect to internet. No warranty from Arris since refurbished. It was a maybe it would work, but Comcast would have to make paid service call to try. Too much effort and time wasted. Xfinity support said call manufacturer, but you can only ask questions of community. Returning it. Nice to hear it worked for some, but not us.

While my Xfinity tech was here replacing my Xfinity box he said my modem was only 400 speed, but I had 800 available. So I got this one that covered that difference, it wouldn't connect to the internet. I spent two days and many hours on the phone with Xfinity, they finally offered to have a tech come trouble shoot it and get it going for me. He did this and that for an hour and a half, since it was a refurbished unit it was misidentifying as an Xfinity Gateway unit. We gave it a new Wi-Fi network name and gave it a new password, that was the hookup problem fixed.

I bought this item for the ease combination of a modem and a wifi router. However, it was a disaster since the wifi never connects and kept making me to contact the customer service. I spent 3 days to figure out, however, all they say is to purchase a protection plan and they will further assist.NO THANKS! I ended up returning the item and went back to a traditional way - a modem and a wifi router. the internet never disconnects and works better!

I wanted an Xfinity compatible modem / router to avoid renting one for $15 per month. The Arris Surfboard SVG2482AC was one of 3 models listed by Xfinity for our internet plan (600 MB/s download speed, plus digital telephone. I selected a refurbished unit for $129 and it arrived in one day with Prime shipping. Everything was packaged as if new. Besides the cable modem, it came with the power supply, coax and ethernet cables. I was able to set up everything using the quick start guide and authenticate the service from the startup web page on my ethernet connected laptop. This model was rated for up to a gig download speed, although the description said it was certified for 600 mb/s by Xfinity. The speed test gave over 700 on ethernet and about 350 on wifi nearby. I tested at different ranges at both ends of the large ranch, and in the basement, and it still got over 50 at the far end in the basement, so the wifi range is pretty good with my laptop. It comes with 2 phone and 4 ethernet ports. I plugged in two generic old phones and they worked fine for both incoming and outgoing calls. Very happy that this refurbished unit performed exactly as specified for my requirements.

I purchased this modem to save the 15$/month rental fee. Looks brand new but is a refurbished modem. It will pay for itself in 6 months.Super easy to set up using the Xfinity app first then the Arris Surfboard app. Speed test : Download speed 350 Mbps Upload 21.7 MbpsI did have to call Xfinity tech support for help. Took about 15 mins to get everything set up.If i get a year out of it I’ll be happy. So far So good !!!Highly recommended 5 stars
