Vehicles with automatic transmissions have a flex plate. The flex plates connects the engine and transmission. Most flex plates are made of a thick piece of sheet metal with bolt holes for the torque converter and teeth for the starter. The job of a flex plate is to allow for expansion of the torque converter as engine RPM increases. The constant expansion and contraction of a flex plate over time can result cracks and/or shearing of the flex plate. A damaged flex plate can create serious (expensive) damage. Broken flex plates can not be repaired, they must be replaced. ATP flex plates are made of high quality steel and contain the correct bolt hole spacing and ring gear teeth just like the original part to ensure long life and durability

Fit good. Started it up before I put the transmission back in to make sure it wasnt bent or hit the starter. It had a slight wobble but bolting it to the converter straightened it up.

I purchased this, and the first one was warped. The ring gear was not welded on correctly, and so it was hitting the starter while the engine was running. I had to return it for a replacement which fit WAY better than the first one. I should have know something wasn't right when the first one didn't fit easily over the crankshaft adapter. The second one fit perfectly. The return/exchange process was very easy and painless. I just had the annoyance of having to remove the transmission twice out of my 3/4 ton truck.

Ordered the first one and installed on my 97 7.3. the flexplate starter ring was not welded straight so the plate was spinning the starter. Pulled the transmission back out and ordered a replacement. This one was even worse than the first. I decided to just go to a different source.

This is not manufactured to OE specifications ( deminsions wise) it looks like a good product but does not fit properly. I purchased one and it hit the starter. I ordered a replacement part and it too would hit the starter. Get an OE part and save yourself the trouble.
