ATtiny85 Microcontroller, 8-pin PDIP

The ATtiny85 is a low-power CMOS 8-bit microcontroller based on the AVR enhanced RISC architecture. By executing powerful instructions in a single clock cycle, the ATtiny85 achieves throughputs approaching 1 MIPS per MHz allowing the system designer to optimize power consumption versus processing speed.

I love these devices, and have a lot of plans for various projects incorporating them. I didn't realize Arduino's are just these (or more powerful versions) with easy to use headers..They can be programmed directly from Arduino's software using another Arduino, or using something like USB Tiny flasher. I have used both, and can be set to use extremely low power requirements with watchdog timers. You can literally perform various tasks (using timers) and kept them going for 1-2 years using Coin batteries. Don't expect to do anything too complicated though to have that amount of time from the batteries..

I only needed one of these for a specific project that didn't require a lot of I/O pins, but it's nice to have more than one in case of a disaster or just to try out alternate versions of software. I was already familiar with the Arduino programming environment, so that was the easiest and least expensive way for me to program these microcontrollers. All in all, you get a lot of functionality for the price.

I've programmed two of these ATTiny85 so far and they work well and are exactly as advertised. I would purchase these again or recommend them to others.

The ATtiny85s from this supplier work great when programmed via Arduino ICSP and are much nicer for prototyping compared to PIC MCUs. Would highly recommend.

All MCU's worked! Packaged with the pin's integrity in mind in a neat little rail for them all to fit on. I'm happy about that because I've ordered some 328P's that were in nothing but a plastic bag with nothing to keep the pins from being bent.

Great for small electronics projects. Programmed it easily with the TinyAVR Programmer from SparkFun

Having a ton of fun programming these little guys and learning a lot. Incredibly easy using the USB ATTiny Programmer.
