As usual, I always read the reviews before I purchase an item. And I read the negative reviews first. I was noticing the negative reviews were about the square canvases and I purchased the 2 1/2 x 3 1/2“ canvases. So I’m not sure if that makes a difference or not, but I know all of them are shrink wrapped tightly to protect them and keep them clean as all the larger canvases I purchase are also shrink wrapped. That may or may not be affecting the looseness of the canvases, that’s just a hypothetical guess. Since I usually paint on larger canvases, like 8 x 10 or 16 x 20 and occasionally larger than that, this was going be my first attempt painting miniatures. Since several reviews mentioned loose or uneven canvas surfaces, so before you even paint you need to tighten the canvas. I do this by adding a very small amount of hot water to the BACK of just the canvas. The key word is “little.†You just want to barely moisten the canvas. I use a barely damp cotton swab to make 2-3 swipes of hot water on the back of the canvas and then use my fingertip to spread the water around. Next, immediately aim a blow dryer on the moistened canvas set to high heat! In less then a minute or two you’ll have a drum tight canvas to work on. These small canvases are so light, you won’t even need nails to hang them. Just use a little ball of sticky-tack to hang them on the wall! Invite children or grandchildren to paint with you - a “milk a cookies†paint session. You can paint each other, a common simple subject, a easy still life, their favorite cartoon character or their pet! Give helpful critiques without saying anything negatively. Have the child tell you how they painted the object/dog and boost their confidence! They’ll love you for your honesty and if they gift it to you, be sure to hang it in a prominent place in your home. The painting that they might not have felt so good about, when hung over the fireplace or when you first came in the door and it is seen, will give them the impression that what they painted has been elevated to a higher level than they believed. And what grandparent hasn’t cherished grandchildrens gifts? None! This way if they ask for it back, and that will be difficult for them so you can suggest it, they will have a better appreciation of their work and be proud of themselves! When someone they love and trust values something they made, it boosts their confidence and could get them interested in pursuing art even further! At least until they become interested in something else. Depending on the age they start, will show how long the interest lasts. And you know as much as I that youngsters can change their interests in minutes! 🤣 Yet they will always remember who they first painted with them and I would suggest Liquidtex BASICS to start with. They come in tubes and are better than craft paints. Never dilute paints with more than 20% water as you could loose too much of the binding agents in the paints. Liquitex BASICS are affordable and easy to always have on hand if they want to come back months later and paint again. Just remember to wipe the threads of the tubes clean of paint to make them easier to open if stored for awhile. Oh, you’ll need synthetic brushes! They hold more paint and can handle the thicker texture of acrylics. Get a few different sizes of “rounds†and if the package comes with fancier ones, they’ll be excited to see what they do. Personally I’m using these minis for me and when we move closer to grandchildren, I’ll share the canvases and paints with them also. Of course the younger ones will love them because “they’re so cute!†😊 HAVE FUN PAINTING!!!

I like that there are no staples on the back so the appearance is tidy from all sides

As a teacher, I used these for a Christmas gift project. Some of the wooden frames had come apart immediately after taking them out of the box, so they had to be glued together before the students could use them.

Me gustó que tiene los bordes muy limpios, tal vez le agregaria una capa de gesso y listo para pintar!

The canvas seemed loosely wrapped but I fixed it by coating the back or underside of the canvas by brushing on White paper glue (school glue) on the back. This tightened up the canvas and repaired it …looks much better nowðŸ‘
