This little toy is a much loved part of our homeschool Gardens & Bugs spring theme. Perfect for a child who is into bugs and/or interested in learning about microscopes. It is a much more economical option than the other toy microscopes available on this platform. The handles on both sides allow for easy gripping. The specimen can be viewed from the top or the bottom, much to the delight of my 3 year old. The microscope comes with 3 plastic insects but can also be used for viewing real insects - perfect for backyard fun or taking on nature walks!

My twin boys love this toy! I would have given it 5 stars, but I did not receive the item as advertised. I ordered one of each (both the kit with magnifying glass and tweezers and one with just the bugs) to get the variety of bugs. I was disappointed when the items arrived and both items had the same bugs. The kit was supposed to come with the ant, grasshopper and scorpion as shown on both the Amazon advertisement and the box, but it came with the same bugs as the basic microscope (centipede, fly and ladybug). I bought both for the bug variety and didn’t receive what was advertised.

This is a fun toy for kids who are interested in bugs like mine. This thing is pretty neat. 2 of the 3 bugs that came with it are a little large for the canister, but can be squished in there. You can see the bottom of the bug from the front viewer and see the top of the bug through the top viewer. Pretty neat toy for kids and I think totally worth the current price of $7.99.

Disappointing entry in the “STEM†toy category. The microscope for young children is colorful and comes with easy-to-hold handles. It looks like it would be great to take out into the yard or park and investigate insects. Nope, not unless you are going to pick them up, remove the cone off the “microscope,†put the cone back on, and then look at what you’ve captured. This is not designed to simply hold over an object and see it magnified. It is clumsy and pointless, and the magnification is quite weak. It comes with three plastic, cartoon-like creatures – a cricket, scorpion and ant, I think. They would be fun to look at for about 3 seconds each. First, they are big enough there’s no reason to magnify them. Second, they are not realistic. Third, they lack interesting detail. Better to just get your child a sturdy, hand-held plastic magnifying glass. Then the child won’t need to handle the creature to get a good look, or lug around a big plastic gizmo that really makes no sense. Pictures with this are shot through the lens of the microscope to show a mosquito in the chamber.

The kids loved it yet the lens was not the best. My kids love to observe insects. We put a dead beatle in and it was probably just double magnified if not less. Which is not so bad. Yet I expected more clearn magnified vision.
