View & capture the Sun in high resolution with this AstroSolar Safety Filter Film from Baader Planetarium! Using your own telescope, binoculars, spotting scope, or camera lens, you can cut this solar film to a custom size and safely observe the Sun. Be sure to measure the diameter of your telescope / lens opening before ordering.
Baader solar film shows the Sun in white light, which is its true color, unlike other brands that add an unnatural yellow tint. With a reduction factor of 100,000x, Baader solar film blocks 99.999% of the Sun's powerful rays, allowing you to capture details like sunspots and granularity. It's perfect for viewing & imaging the Moon partially eclipsing the Sun during a solar eclipse, like the one on April 8th, 2024.
Baader Solar Film shows the Sun in its natural white light color, unlike competing brands which show the Sun in an unnatural yellow color and lower resolution.
HOW TO INSTALL
- You'll need cardboard, a poster tube slightly larger than your dew shield / lens hood, glue, ruler, and an exact-o knife
- Measure the diameter of your telescope's dew shield / lens hood and then cut out a piece of solar film to be about 1-2" larger than that
- Cut two pieces of cardboard to be the same size as the solar film
- Using the poster tube as a template, cut circles in the cardboard squares
- Sandwich the solar film between the two pieces cardboard and glue them together
- Take the cylindrical piece of poster tube and cut a small cross section of it
- Lastly, glue the poster tube to one side of a cardboard square and securely attach it to your optics
Baader AstroSolar film is perfect for use during the partial phases of solar eclipses, but should be removed only during totality during a total solar eclipse.

Attached are a couple of photos I have shot using these filters on my Celestron telescope. The pale one shows you what you get through the filter and the yellow one is how you can adjust the photos afterwards. It protects you through the telescope if you follow the instructions properly. You can look through your telescope with just your eyes safely with one of these filters.I 3D printed a cover for my telescope that fits the sheets without trimming. You can see my setup in one of the photos. It worked great for the April 2024 eclipse and I have used these multiple times since to observe the sun. These are delicate, but great to use. Buy two as I damaged one after the eclipse and you don't want any pinholes or it is useless.If you are interested at looking at sunspots, these are a must purchase.

I got this to use on my 5" reflector telescope. Obviously this wasn't big enough to cover the entire aperture so I had to make my own sleeve to put around the telescope made with poster board. It did reduce the aperture size by a bit, but honestly, that didn't pose any problem for me, and even then I still put on a moon filter to lower the brightness a bit more.I really liked that it shows a more true color for the sun rather than the yellow that eclipse filters do. The film is too thin for my likes though and is really hard to handle and keep glued (it kept peeling off because the film is so thin and the sheet of manila tag it says to glue onto is too glossy to hold a proper grip. So I just went out and bought a sheet of poster board, cut a circle, and then a second one inside of it and used double-sided tape to stick the sheet onto the disc and then glued a sleeve to it so I could easily slide it off and on my telescope.I also was able to see several large sunspots just by holding the sheet up to the sun (which they don't recommend since it doesn't fully block all the UV, but seeing how I wear glasses which are UV blocking as well, I figured looking for a few seconds wasn't too bad.) On the telescope it works perfectly fine, got to see some more smaller sunspots which weren't visible to the unaided eye.But again, it's a bit pricey (I paid $29, and as of this review it's down to like $25) for the size, and it's just really, REALLY thin, mine got a few creases just by attaching so, be careful. But it sure beats paying $100 for 'telescope ready' filters.

Although it took a bit to put it all together, the effort was well worth it. Bought this to make a solar filter for my telescope for the 2024 total solar eclipse. Attached my phone to telescope and got some great pictures during the eclipse (123 pics to be exact). This filter worked flawlessly. Taking it off during totality and putting it back on afterwards was easy to do. Definitely recommend the purchase if you wasn't to view the sun with your telescope. Clarity was amazing! I was able to get clear pics of sunspots and the "diamond ring".

Con el Sol no se juega. La lámina Baader es la original y, aunque su precio supere con creces la de otros filtros de mylar ya fabricados y completos, la calidad y resistencia de la lámina Baader es incomparable, y viene recubierta por ambas caras (cosa que el resto de filtros de imitación no). Con la lámina Baader se filtra más del 99% de la luz (y calor) del Sol, lo que la hace, con un artilugio adecuadamente construido para que no se desprenda del objetivo de su telescopio, perfectamente segura para la observación de la fotosfera solar, con una buena definición visual (no importa si la lámina está un poco arrugada) sin riesgo para sus ojos...

Rien à redire sur le filtre mais il me semblait avoir commandé la version 200mm..... Impossible à savoir dans le résumé des commandes amazon. Donc j'écris un commentaire, pour peut-être l'avoir inscrit en tête de mon commentaire.
