I rated this adapter 5 stars because it does what it is marketed to do, turn an internal sata drive into an external usb drive. However, I purchased this to convert an internal cd drive to usb and that did not work. Research after the fact revealed that usb does not provide sufficient power.

I clearly didn’t read the requirements, so don’t make my mistake. I have a lot of 3.5†drives I was hoping to use this with, and had zero success connecting to them. I was about to chuck this in the trash and write a scathing review when I luckily connected a 2.5†drive salvaged from a laptop and it worked. Initial thought was that it was the capacity size of the drive, so I tried a smaller capacity 3.5†drive and again was thwarted. Finally I got online and read the information again to discover this adapter only works with 2.5†drives.Well, now that I know that, I guess I’ll need to be on the lookout for another one of these adapters that works with the 3.5†drives. This one does perform well, or in my limited test with the 2.5†drive, it worked well.

I accidentally deleted all our pictures, videos, documents, everything from my laptop because I thought they were backed up on my external. They weren't!! I had an old laptop where they were stored, but the old laptop wouldn't turn on. I needed something to get the files from the old laptop... This cable did it! All I had to do was remove the hard drive from the old computer, attach this cable, and plug to the current laptop and I could copy all my files... pics, videos, docs, everything I lost! Highly recommended and well worth the purchase!

I have an oooldddd laptop that hasn’t worked for 10 years. I purchased this adapter to recover pictures. I almost returned it because I thought it did not fit. Then I realized you have to remove the metal cover from hard drive to get this to fit.In the end I was able to connect my old SATA hard drive to my Apple laptop and recover my old photos. It’s been great going through my old photos with my husband. Thank you!!!

This is a really sturdy connector for backup drives and such. Works like a charm. Some dongles are fussy and won't connect. This one is the toughest ever with a cable that won't wear out. In my experience it connects drives without failure. Others can be fussy. I only wish it had an LED to monitor if the drive is active and writing. It's the best option, just missing an LED which would be convenient. I'd take this one that works and put up with checking your screen when backing up instead of watching the LED blink. At least it works. Most are fussy as it gets.
