These boots are absolutely the best work boot I've owned. After nearly three month's use, here is my assessment. Fit: they are absolutely true to size. My size 10 foot pushes up on the exact line between 10 and 10 1/2. This makes shoe purchases difficult for me, dependant on the last. The Bates Tactical allows just a fraction extra length so my foot feels totally comfortable all day long and never pushes up against the toe, even carrying a heavy loads down hill. Comfort: the combination of water proof fabric and leather make these boots extremely comfortable and easy to break in within a few days. Even better, the side zipper makes them a breeze to get in and out of. The plastic eyelet at the fifth lace point allows me to tie off the lace below the ankle for extra freedom of movement when I don't need the support; and won't come undone when getting in and out via the side zipper. Weight: this is the best feature. These hard-toe work boots weight about as much as a pair of lightweight hiking boots! Compared to the bulk of 3- 5 lbs shoes out there (and I've tried them all) these boots are a cloud to walk in.I'll address some of the negative reviews I read. First, if you plan to throw these boots into a wood chipper or drag the toes over concrete regularly, these may not be the best for you. The leather over the toe box feels a little lighter than heavier boots with metal toe caps. Also legitimate is the complaint that the seam dividing the lower and upper parts of the tongue wears on the ankle. Bates would be wise to redesign the tongue so that seam falls lower on the sides. I used a needle and thread to put an 1/8" dart on the inside seam. This was probably unnecessary as after a few days wear the boots broke in with no more issue. If you experience that problem, my advice would be to first wear the boots a few hours a day at home until they break in.All in all, I'm very satisfied with this purchase. These are super light, super comfortable, super smart-looking safety boots I can wear all day long, even just for hanging out!

I have had several pairs of version 1 mid-height boot and they were great. These version 2’s are absolutely miserable. I swear they are made for people with ankles the size of tree trunks. The tongue of the boot goes halfway around my leg and leaves welts where they sit on the left boot. On the right boot, it doesn’t do it. However, on the right boot, the part the lace goes through at the top is so long on one side that the boot ties off center towards the inside of my leg.These are also very stiff in comparison to the originals and they come up higher as well. I am very disappointed in these boots. I’ll probably end up throwing them in the garbage since it’s outside of the return window. Bates really screwed the pooch on this boot.8 month update: Even worse than I originally rated them at 1 star. Eyelets are all falling out. It’s impossible to properly adjust them because of the lace lock. in order to have a good fit I have to fight it each and every time. What a poor design. Stay away from this garbage.

Out of the box, you have to adjust the lacest to match your foot. That's it! I had to adjust the bottom laces looser because i do have wide feet. Once I adjusted my laces, because they have wide width in my size, these fit perfect for me. It is comfortable for me to walk around in and firm enough to walk on the rocks. I would usually buy a size higher to fit, but no more. The bottom of the boot has more tread then what I had been buying and the material looks and feels more durable.I gave it five stars because of the fit and comfort which is hard to find and I will buy these again. I had been buying Skechers, but they no longer offer the extra wide boots. Material wise, these are far superior.

I had high hopes for these boots, but they didn’t deliver. They felt stiff and uncomfortable right out of the box, even after trying to break them in. After just a few weeks of use, the soles started to wear out faster than expected. For the price, I was expecting something much more reliable. Disappointed.

I’ve gone through about a dozen pairs of Bates boots working in law enforcement. This particular model has weird pressure points where the eye lids are on both sides near the middle that cause the boot to be very uncomfortable and actually hurt. I decided to keep the boots and after wearing them for about 80 hours (two weeks) they have seems to break in better and not be as uncomfortable.

Très confortable, trop chaude pour l’été. Bon pour les 3 autres saisons. A l’air de bonne qualité. J’adore. À voir à l’automne prochain pour tester la qualité. Ne regrette pas de l’avoir acheté pour le moment. Les grandeurs son bonne. Pas trop petit ni trop grand. Pas trop étroite ni trop large.

Wore out my last pair of Bates Boots metal detecting in the desert areas. Needed a pair of boots that had NO METAL in them and a snake proof boot. THESE FIT THE BILL. Very HAPPY and they fit perfect.
