Kept setting off alarm even though temp of riser was very low

I ordered two of these and one was shorted to ground right out of the package.Installed both of them into the Volvo Penta exhaust elbows and the overheat alarm sounded with the engine running and cool temperature. Isolated one shorted sender and replaced with OEM Volvo Penta unit.
