this lil green gerblin is based on the roland tr-606 drumatix drum machine from the early 80s. it uses analog synthesis (rather than digital samples) to create the drum sounds, so it's got a pretty classic and not at all "real" sound. like the original, you can't tweak most of the sounds, aside from the addition of being able to adjust the decay on the open hi-hat. also like the original, you've got a somewhat limited sound palette to work with -- a bass drum, snare drum, hi and lo toms, open and closed hats, a cymbal, and a handclap borrowed from the circuitry of the boss br-110 rhythm doctor (an EXTREMELY welcome addition). there's no way to swing the beat, no retrigger, and the accent is general -- it accents ALL the drums on that step. fairly limiting stuff...but at THIS price? oh man who cares? it's such a massive deal! you've got 5-pin midi, you've got midi over USB (so that takes care of your retrigger and swing if you need it that badly), you've got sync in/out, triggers on the toms, separate 1/8" outputs for each drum in addition to a general 1/4" output, and an input for a foot pedal for reasons i can't really fathom, to be honest! it's such a fantastic little machine, and it's practically made to go with the td-3 (much like the original tr-606 was made to go with the tb-303). you can hook the two up with a 1/8" trs cable and IMMEDIATELY just start jamming out like a much less talented luke vibert. it's absolutely worth the price of admission, and it's a great drum machine to learn the basics on, if that's what you're looking for. i couldn't recommend it more highly.ESPECIALLY when you can get it in translucent green! why more companies aren't bringing back the 90s eXtreme game boy aesthetic i can't fathom, this thing looks incredible! even better next to a translucent purple td-3!

You can't go wrong with one of these at this price. Yes it's a little weird to write a pattern on it, but that's why you end up with such cool and unique patterns. I use it hooked to another drum machine via MIDI when I want to compose something specific, and then I just trigger the voices externally. For the price they sell these things you really have nothing to complain about. It might not be the best choice if it were your only drum machine, but it could still be a good one to start with if you're willing to go with the flow and keep your mind open.

Was super exited to get this and mess around with it. Item didn’t power on when received. Red light would flash for a second and then nothing. Returned it unfortunately.

I’m a guitarist and bought this for fun. Worth the low price!

It does what it claims, but you can't really... control? it. what I mean is, this is pretty much on, off, tempo, pattern. the sound does not change much at all, accent knob is pretty much for looks (it does something, barely) and well, it just sounds pretty bad. BUT IT HAS CV AND MIDI IN AND OUT! Thus it gets a 10/10 for those things. USE IT FOR THE MIDI AND CV!

I bought this unit to make some beats with my kids- I wanted something inexpensive and easy for the kids to learn to sequence, and the RD-6 is perfect. But don't get me wrong, it's not a toy. If you're into the old school drum machine thing, it really scratches the itch.I bought the lime green one because it was the least expensive, and while it's very "plastic" feeling, it doesn't feel overly fragile. Not much different than the old Roland stuff. The separate sends are nice for both external sound mixing and for triggering other stuff (a personal fav is sending the clap to a Monotron delay for some programmable space sounds). My only complaint is that the Midi connection seems to glitch a bit when connected to the TD-3 bass synth. However the sync out sends a great trigger signal to the TD-3 that doesn't glitch at all, and the midi out works well with my Alesis Micron synth. If you wanna make some fun old school beats, this is it.

Basically the 606 but for a lot cheaper. It is what it is in sound. If you’re buying this, know that you can’t change the pitch on the individual drum sounds. Individual outs let you tweak the individual sounds that way. Super cool piece of gear for the price. Especially if you love vintage analog. Plays nicely with the TD-3.

I purchased this through Amazon for ease but should have gone to a store. The music stores near me generally have a 1 year warranty included. It worked at first but has stopped in less than a year and there is no way to send it back. Massive waste of money.

Máquina para sacarle mucho partido a tus pistas. Sonido ácido clavado. Mucho más fácil de programar que a TD3.
