I use these 9 inch sanding discs to sand down rough cut boards. I use a variable speed sander/polisher instead of an angle grinder because the rpm is too high on the angle grinder. It doesn't work too well on pine because the resin clogs up the discs. However on cedar or any kind of hardwood it works very well. It removes material faster than a 4 inch belt sander that I have. I use 60 grit discs to sand down the boards and then a 1/3 sheet sander with 120 grit to get them smooth. The discs are made of very tough material. They don't tear and have a pretty long life. They will sand down metal so if you have a screw head sticking up out of a board it will sand the head off down flush with the board in a couple of seconds which is a handy feature. Regular sandpaper would tear if you tried that. Since it removes material very fast you can use it to round off corners on a table for instance. The 9 inch backing pads are a little hard to find and 7 inch ones don't work very well for sanding boards. Altogether they are very handy but it makes a lot of dust. You need to use them out of doors and use a dust mask.

They work great for me! I do quite a bit of grinding on fiberglass and these make my job easier!
