About this item

  • Premium Silicon Carbide Grains
  • Heavy Duty Vulcanized Backing
  • 4.5" Diameter x 7/8" Arbor Hole with 6 Slots
  • Spiral design allows cooler grinding and inhibits loading

The BHA 4.5” x 7/8” Silicon Carbide Semi-Flexible Disc features multiple layers of high-quality silicon carbide grains adhered to a vulcanized fiber backing in a spiral-like pattern. These 4-1/2 inch discs are stiff to the touch but provide some give during use hence their "semi-flexible" name. Each semi flex disc is coated with premium Silicon Carbide abrasive grains, which are extremely sharp, boasting an impressive hardness, leading to faster cuts and finer scratch patterns. Semi-flexible silicon carbide discs are engineered for fast grinding and removal of thick adhesive-type coatings, glue, epoxy, urethane, rubberized coatings, mastic, sealers from concrete as well as a variety of surfaces including metal, enamel, fiberglass, porcelain, and masonry mediums. The spiral design combined with the silicon carbide grains of the disc allows for a cooler, load resistant grind especially compared to diamond cup wheels which can get very hot and gum up. These discs can also remove mill scale, light rust, paint, dirt, mud or just generally grind down and shape masonry including concrete, stone, brick, marble, quartz, limestone etc. These discs are clearly very versatile so it comes as no surprised that they have useful applications in industries ranging from plumbing to ship building to masonry, construction (specifically pre cast and pre stressed concrete), flooring, and welding.

I bought these to remove mill scale on new steel after seeing a video on weld.com. They work great! Remove mill scale with ease and don't dig into the steel if you keep them moving

Mill scale can be tough to remove. This does the job with relative ease. Silicone carbide is about the only product that does this economically. Diamond coated wire brushes work but are very expensive.
