Used it on a GX340 Honda in a Multiquip 6000 generator to set governor high speed and low idle speed. Works great and easy to use, just clip it on the plug wire. Good value for the money, built ok although I wouldn't be dropping it etc. My RPM was high and this confirmed it. Although I have no way of seeing how accurate it is, I'd say from experience it's pretty close. Engine sounded just like it should after adjustment. I was outside in daylight and had no problem reading the display. Give it about 15-30 seconds to "level out" when making carb adjustments (it takes the engine that long to level out from any adjustments you make). All in all it's worth the price.

This is much easier to use than the light one with the reflective tape. Seems to be of good enough quality I'm sure it's accurate. It's small, it's handy. I would buy it again.

I tried this on a single-cylinder 4 stroke outboard motor.Using the supplied cable, the idle RPM reading was wildly fluctuating between 1,600-3,800 RPM. Using it without the cable gave a more consistent, believable reading. Was I using the supplied cable correctly? Who knows?? The instructions are so vague and poorly written that they were actually funny. ROTFLMAO funny. Is the tachometer accurate? Again - who knows? The connecting rod on my outboard didn't punch through the block, so I know the tach is probably accurate within +/- 5,000 RPM.The overall build quality is low. I don't expect to pass this tool down to my children. But hey - what can you expect from a $14 Amazon purchase?Am I satisfied? Yes, but if I'd spent more than $14 on this "Crackerjack box" grade tool, I'd be annoyed.

I needed a way to set the RPM's to 1650 on a Vespa GT. This worked great, was steady, seems accurate, and best of all I can use it to check other things like my yamaha generator, and dirt bikes. Great purchase

Device was shown as a tachometer for small engine with "replaceable battery capability" however it does not have a battery door where you could replace the battery in the future. It is easy to use by just holding close to the spark plug wire when mower is running to get an approximate RPM reading.

Problem One: You CANNOT replace the battery on this tachometer. The housing is sealed with no way to access the battery to replace it. Therefore, you will have to buy ANOTHER tachometer when the battery dies in this one.Problem Two: The instructions indicate that you can use the tachometer in two ways: 1) Holding the tachometer close to the spark plug cable, and 2) Connecting the wire to the tachometer and then, using the clip, connecting the other end of the wire to the spark plug cable. The problem is that you get two different readings, depending on the method you use -- actually, THREE different readings depending on how you connect the wire to the tachometer. If you securely connect the wire to the tachometer by looping it through the two holes (as shown in the image) you get one reading with the wire (a reading that seems WAY too high), and if you connect it to the tachometer buy just running the wire through one of the holes, you get a completely different, much lower reading.Problem Three: As per the instructions: "This tachometer is ... suitable for two-stroke single-cylinder, four-stroke twin-cylinder and petrol engines that rotate once a week." Notice that it does not say that it is suitable for four-stroke single cylinder engines, which excludes MOST push mower engines. THAT would be a handy bit of information to put in the product's description up front, rather than having to buy it to read the instructions to find out that it won't work for most push lawn mower engines.I was really hoping that THIS tachometer was going to be the last one I had to buy, but NOPE. RETURN. Maybe the next one will actually be worth it.
