Note: the factory tmc2208-v3.0 has two modes of STEP/DIR and UART, customers can choose according to their needs.
Users who purchase the STEP/DIR mode driver need to perform the following hardware operations on the driver module before wiring.
The user who purchases the UART mode driver does not need to perform any soldering operation.
【The Benefits of UART Mode】:
Motor current can be set arbitrarily by firmware.
Micro-steps can be set arbitrarily by firmware (up to 256 actual micro-steps).
The actual and interpolated microsteps can be combined to achieve maximum torque.
Firmware can dynamically switch stepper motors between stealthChop2 and spreadCycle modes through UART.

Always wanted to upgrade to the Tmc drivers. Bought a SKR 1.3 from Bigtreetech and never looked back! Print quality is excellent, and the sound level is reduced. I have to look sometimes to make sure the printer is still printing. Will use these driver sticks again for future upgrades.

bought this cause it claimed to already be configured for UART mode 3, but it isn't. The included headers make the necessary required soldering extra inconvenient

I ordered UART mode to avoid having to do additional soldering, but I still received the standalone version. The soldering pads are very tiny. Hopefully my hands will be steady enough to solder them without breaking it.I understand mix ups happen, but this is annoying.

From the description, it's hard to tell whether these come in "legacy" mode or "UART" mode. The manual says that they come both ways from the factory and that the UART mode ones do not need J2 configured for UART mode. These come without J2 configured! BigTree-Tech expects the buyer to install the .4mm solder blob that's partially obscured by the preinstalled pin headers.

Wicked little drivers, cured my diseased Y stepping issues. Excellent quality, very nice to look at (even though you won't see them, you'll know they're there 🤣) and best of all, they work amazingly. 10/10, love this company and their products.
