  • Pack contains 100 each mini stepped birch dowels
  • Mini stepped dowels are 1-5/8” long, 1/4" in diameter and designed for stock up to 3/4" thick
  • Miller dowels uses a patented stepped drill bit and dowels that produce better, stronger joints with less effort and set up
  • The stepped, ribbed dowel design reduces the amount of glue squeezed off as the dowel is driven home creating a stronger adhesive bond
  • Miller Dowels are a suitable alternative to mortise and tenon, loose tenon, traditional blind or through dowel or biscuit joints requiring less set up and specialized machinery

These stepped dowels are made of birch and work with the Mini-X Miller Dowel System (21747, sold separately). The Mini-X system is designed for joining 1/2'' stock (3/4" maximum) and was developed specifically for use in projects using thinner solid woods, plywood or laminate.

Good color and work great for my small projects.

The dowels are very expensive for what you get. However, the unit as a whole is great! No screws so it holds better and no dowel caps to find and fit. Saves time.

These work surprisingly well and are simple to use. I used them to join mitered corners on some cabinet doors (instead of a mortise and tenon) 10 years ago and the miters are still tight today. They can be assembled dry for test fit then glued for a permanent joint.

Well, this is the fourth order I've placed for the mini sized Miller dowels. I have also used several batches of the regular (next size up) of the Miller dowels. I really like them, find the drill bit excellent, holding its edge well.I've mainly used this system (both sizes) for two uses: the first is affixing bottoms on boxes. The second is for holding shelves (etc.) inside of dados. As these are nearly perfectly round, providing you drill the hole straight, you have no gaps as you sometimes do, drilling, countersinking, using a screw and then plugging with a dowel. My background: I started as a carpenter some 40 years ago. I left the trade in the late 80's and am now an advanced woodworker, building mainly furniture. My woodworking is about 2/3's "Roy Underhill" style, meaning handtools (burning no electrons) and 1/3 power tools wherever a power tool is either a real timesaver or does a better job than any equivalent handtool exercise. With Miller dowels, you get an excellent job, that would be hard to replicate with equivalent results. Try them, you'll like them!

Great alternative to screws and plugs. Put together a complex multi-level shelving system with Titebond glue and dowels. Super easy to use and love they look as good or better than typical round dowels (especially the dowels are hand made from dowel rods. ). Love to align dowels 90 degrees from the project to get a great look for staining.

Love these things. No alignment problems like in regular dowels. Since they show, it limits them somewhat to application. But either use them semi-invisible (light on light or dark on dark) or contrasting for a more interesting design.

For Christ's sake, if you are gonna charge that for simple screw machine parts you subcontract to China at least do a little quality control.I have been using these happily for decades, the last batch I bought are little more than kindling.
