I'm taking a climbing systems class this semester and I was instructed to get an updated belay device. This is a reliable piece of equipment & am grateful for it. Definitely would recommend for anyone starting out in rock climbing or anyone looking to get a replacement.

Great Multi-functional ATC. Good friction for belaying someone heavier than you. Works great as a Guide when belaying from above. Excellent rappelling device as well. Great quality - as expected though, the grooves wear down quite quickly. You'll know when it's time to replace when the rope doesn't 'bite' as much any longer. This is a normal part of friction and should be expected.

Black Diamond guide ATC is surely a quality product. I plan to use this device for saddle hunting and climbing SRT. I’m currently rappelling with a regular ATC, but the guide version does so much more….I need to learn just how versatile it is.bfriendly

I use a Guide ATC primarily because it gives me the flexibility to use it as an ascender in guide mode. I use it in conjunction with a foot loop attached to a CT Rollnlock when ascending a rope. This setup works well for me, but your mileage may vary.

This device allows me to cut a tree limb, redirect it to an adjacent part of the tree, and then lower the limb to the ground. Rather than belaying a lead climber, this device allows me to control the descent of a cut limb. Of course, much tree work is done by commercial arborists. But the solo tree climber/trimmer can appreciate this device. It's light and easy to use.

It's a belay device, it works. My first one was getting a bit battered so replacing it with a like for like was a no brainer. No bells and whistles, no mechanical parts to go wrong. Single rope, double rope, 9mm to 11mm ropes, all used with no issues. Best belay device I have used (And I have used many different types)
