Our A/C started to act up over the summer. The compressor would try starting for a few seconds, and stop. Repeated several times until it finally turned on a few minutes later. I was considering hiring someone to fix it as I knew nothing about A/C's, but I am very much a DIY kind of person, so I did some research and found out the capacitor needed replacing. I purchased this, and I was able to replace it very easily. When turning the A/C back on, the compressor immediately came on, and it sounded like I gave it more life, too. It ended up being a quick, easy, and cheap fix.

I gambled and bet that my Ac wasn't working due to my capacitor. Similar thing happened a few years ago and the HVAC guy showed me how easy it was. I wasn't about to wait two weeks in the hottest summer ever, I decided to take a swing at it. Now I am no longer living in a hot house.Fair warning, my original capacitor was a narrow and tall part & this one came in short and stubby. I was able to leave mine on a corner of the service access on my AC unit. If I wasn't passing out from heat stress, I would take pictures of the product and compare them.Always have the power off and learn how to safely discharge your capacitor before removal. Pay attention to the wiring of your capacitor, take a picture if you have to. God bless and have a good day.

I didn’t have the correct multimedia to check my capacitor so I took a chance and ordered this capacitor to match the one that came with my Rheem AC. After installing my compressor didn’t start up. I called a technician to come and check my system but before he arrived the compressor started up. It seems the capacitor needs time to charge up. Luckily I was able to cancel the tech visit. Cold air is blowing again. I’m going to order a spare to keep on hand.

Here goes... hottest day of the year and air conditioning fan on compressor outdoors isn't turning, Compressor is humming and of course it's getting hot. Yeah.. gotta be the starting capacitor... take a look and it looks like a little teletubbie.Can't get them in a store in Massachusetts, so go online and find that almost everybody needs a couple days to get it here. EXCEPT... I found this one on Amazon with SAME DAY DELIVERY! Only $2.50 extra... You got it... showed up at the door around 7pm... installed in the rain by 8:00pm... all good!!

My outside AC unit stopped functioning. What was happening is it would hum but the fan would spin. The fan motor would get very hot and then the unit would just shut off. At one point to diagnose it, when it went to go on and it was humming I took a stick and pushed the fan blades to see if they were stuck. It started spinning fine then. After doing some research it lead to the capacitor being bad. It holds an electrical charge and when the machine is turned on, it gives the motor that boost it needs to start up. Kind of like kickstarting a manual car with a bad starter.Not wanting to spend an fortune on a service call, I opened the side panel up with 3 screws and read the values on the current capacitor. I ordered the same value AC capacitor here for real cheap. So cheap it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get another one as a spare.To install it, I just took a picture of the current one to see which color wires go where. There was also a wiring diagram on the inside panel. The terminals fit perfectly and it’s just a metal strap with a screw to hold the capacitor in place. Once hooked up, in the disconnect box I flipped the jumper and then went back inside and turned back on the circuit breaker to the unit. I called for AC and it started right up!Problem solved. This was in a Goodman 2.5 ton outdoor AC unit that was installed in the fall of 2011. So the original part lasted 11 years.

not sure if it is normal but drew 1 more amp than my old capacitor.old was around 5.5 amp draw when running, with this was about 6.5 amp.replaced as was sounding like a loud start on a 2.5 ton ac compressor.with this the load thump went away.old cap was reading under ~37mf, cap for fan was in spec at ~4.8mf

The capacitor is one of easiest fixes. Try replacing it first. Slightly more involved than changing a battery. There are several YouTube videos to guide you through the process.I bought a back. Cheap piece of mind.
