This colorant worked great for my project. Maybe a little too good? I needed concrete in a rather dark gray. I followed the directions when mixing. I was starting with 150 pounds of dry concrete mix. I used 7 pounds of colorant to get the color I wanted. I mixed it in first dry, and the concrete mix appeared only slightly darker, so I was concerned that it would not end up dark enough. When I added the water, the mix became considerably darker, darker than I really intended. Once it dried, it became slightly darker again, nearly black. I would recommend making a small test batch with the ratio planned for the project, too see the color that results. I know I will be doing that in the future. The final color probably depends on the concrete mix, maybe even the water used. In any case, the colorant really does the job and the result is very uniform and excellent.

Well depends on how much cement you’re making but it’s not worth it. If you’re doing more then one bag. Color will fade so basically use the entire 10lbs for a bag of 94lbs Portland cement it would work. However Better off going to a concrete supplier for a commercial dye where 1pound will work for 1 94lbs bag of cement at $15 or less for a pound.

I tried to use this to make a light grey color out of 4000psi bagged concrete. I saw recommendations of 1lb per bag of concrete but i used 3/4 cup or about 4oz.The color came out a nice Chocolate BROWN, not black or gray...even though i used an extra scoop of portland which usually adds light gray color.I do believe that it would look almost black if it were more concentrated, buy definitely not gray.My advice is to spend the $10 to waste a bag and do a test pour! Let it dry for a day without water and observe the final color. There are cheap liquid pigments from home depot that have lamp black or other carbon instead of iron. These will indeed make a light grey but not redish or brown.Do your experiment, as concrete lasts decades ;)

I used this coloring powder to make large pavers for my backyard. To insure consistency I used a food measuring cup to color the concrete. It came out pretty nice. I used 1 cup per 80lbs bag and got the color that I wanted. This stuff goes a long ways, but then I also just needed my concrete to be medium gray. Over all I like this stuff a lot, especially after having used the quicrete liquid coloring; this goes a lot further per dollar spent. I actually bought another bag of this, is well worth the price

I'm creating a path and Needed it to have a darker hue to match the older concrete that's already there. This was a much cheaper option than buying the small canisters from the big box store.

This did not go as I expected, and the amount necessary to achieve the color I wanted was far more than i had anticipated.

Don’t bother buying if you are looking for a black concrete pigment. I bought this to pigment my concrete trays. I tried the first batch and it came out chocolate brown. Next batch was double the recommended quantity and it only became a darker chocolate brown. Not even a grey.Total waste of money if you ask me. I didn’t realize someone had left a review saying the same thing about it being brown.

I bought this because it is one of the few pigments that you can buy in larger volumes on Amazon. Wish it was actually black, or even something close would have been fine. I should have paid attention to the other reviews but hoped it was a packaging error. I mixed a test sample at a ratio that should have produced a dark grey and it looks like a bar of dark milk chocolate. Will have to look elsewhere for a true black, don't bother trying this if you are looking for a shade and not a colour.
