This knob cutter has a round concave edge, which is used to cut the bonsai tree burl and root burl, and would make a circular concave incision. In the healing process, tree's sap would cover this incision and let it heal quickly and excellently smooth.

The blade curve and sharpness are perfect, and the hinge joint is just stiff enough to hold position without being clunky. The finish is is great and the quality appears to be top notch. I added a bit of mineral oil preemptively, and have gotten great use from them so far.

I was hesitant to spend the money, but this is a very good quality. It removes the base of branches cleanly. It's sharp and I was able to clean up a few bonsai trees. It was worth the money.

I started out as a member of a very traditional Bonsai club in San Francisco, with very experienced members who had studied with masters, and were now masters themselves. They had all the best tools. I've wanted a nice concave cutter for a long time, but they can be very expensive. This one is the answer. All the function of the costly ones, but affordable. It's a very durable, well made tool. The shape of the cut makes a big difference, and this cutter does the job very easily. The handle length gives the needed leverage, but isn't so big that it's awkward to handle. Manganese steel should retain the sharpness and remain durable for a long time. Recommended.
