I grew up using wooden pencils all through school.These are Excellent. Quality Cedar, firm yet soft lead. Sharpens nicely with proper sharpener. Everything you’d expect from a quality pencil. Great erasing.

These are much better than the bulk Amazon brand pencils and Staple brand pencils..Sharpens very well with the sharpened wood being smooth and even. No wooden burs or roughness at all..Lead tip is stiff and hard. Takes pressure well with no breaking or chipping of tip..Writing is smooth, coverage is even, and color is rich and black..Eraser tip works. No smudging. Eraser is firm yet flexible. Removed pencil marks easily and readily..Good value for money.

Overall the pencil is in decent quality and can fulfil its function with no issue.The paint color of the pencil comes as a surprise. The reality is very different from marketing photos. This is the kind of color frequently found in toilet bowl. Doesn't look good in comparison. Though by itself it looks all right. The wood has an aroma that fills the room. It is a bit distracting at first, after a few weeks the odor wanes and is barely noticeable. The wood responses so well to knife blade and rolls off effortlessly like butter. The eraser is not as good as Dixon's. Have to press harder to remove graphite marks. This is due to the eraser is rigid and doesn't make good contact with graphite in the indentations on a paper. The eraser assembly has an awkward looking. The aluminum barrel is over tightened and bites unnecessarily deep in the wood shaft. The barrel is also not in alignment with the wood shaft. Eraser is in alignment with neither wood shaft nor aluminum barrel. Looks like the manufacturing factory is still on the way to find a proper process. The paint on wood is quite solid and has very good traction. Other brands have slippery thin paint.None of the minor issues affects usage at all. The pencil holds comfortably in hand and writes as good as the next one. Though next time I may have a change of brand, thanks to the color. It is actually not an easy choice among the three brands at hand. The Staple eraser is a decoration. The Dixon wood shaft is slightly smaller than others, while its graphite core has larger diameter. As a result, the hold is not as secure as others, and it takes more time to knife off the graphite to the desired shape.

We love these Bostich pencils. They're sleepers -- seem like just yellow pencils from a company you think of for office supply fasteners. But these pencils are just outstanding. Some of the most smooth writing we've ever used. REAL AMERICAN CEDAR, which is all but gone from inexpensive pencils today. Good pain, reasonable eraser. And because their lead is so smooth, they reduce hand fatigue. It's our go-to -- and I'd recommend them 100% for school or office.

Is it possible to get excited over something as mundane as a pencil? Yes, it is...these are the old fashioned, proper pencils that generations used at school and (in my case) at work. All before cheap pencils flooded the market. These are not those, they have proper cedar wood casings (they smell good!) and decent lead. I've been looking for these for a long time, and now can throw out all the pencils made out of poplar or some other junk wood. I'm looking forward to using these.
