My kid is height/weight proportional, and has always worn a regular size made for kids 6-12 months older than he is, so I pay attention to size charts, and ignore age estimates. This garment appears very well made, and looks really sharp - but I'm not even going to have him try them on. I measured the shorts, then tried them on a smaller kid instead... The lay flat outside waist measurement is 12", and fits fine on a 25" waist. The fabric might stretch a bit more, but there is no way the waistband would comfortably stretch to 27.5-28". The leg opening measures 6.75, and fits very snug but not too tight on a thigh diameter of 15". Nice shorts, but disappointing fit.
