Just did the front brakes on my GMC truck and they worked perfectly. I’m 47 and have been using and old brake pad and C clamp since I was 14. These beat that hands down! Some reviews said they’re light duty and should only be used on a rare occasion but I think they’d hold up for the price.

Arrived a day early!!! But I had already got the job done, looking forward to the next brake job and getting to use it as the one I have just makes the job harder. It does appear as advertised. Believe it will be good tool.

Ordered this for 4 piston brembo calipers that are part of the BMW m sport brake package known as M Sport S2NHA.First disappointing part, the "smaller" pad set that is on the tool (without the magnet extensions) was too long to fit between the caliper pad area.I had to dremel off approx. a quarter inch of metal on each side, wasting about 3 dremel metal cutting disks which unfortunately cost about 3 bucks a piece, so...about $10 wasted into correcting the dimensions on this tool. After that, you quickly realize that there's no way to use the tool with the caliper mounted, so you will have to remove it no matter what, not useful at all for just swapping pads out.Additionally, ratcheted open to full capacity, the tool doesnt spread far enough, and one side just falls off, so you have to put one or 2 pads back in, then squeeze the metal pad area on the tool to create enough friction for it to expand again.Basically, this will likely work in a pinch, but it really is poorly designed and cheap and a knockoff of a similar ratcheting design from performance tool for twice the price. The only positive to this is it did work, and on the rear smaller calipers, you can turn the metal pads on the tool sideways to make it fit on the dual piston rear brembro calipers to spread them as well.I dont think this will last long term as the metal pads are already starting to curve just from using them 1 time on a full brake job. I will likely end up returning it and just coughing the money up for the more expensive Lisle quad piston spreader instead.

Remember: This ratchet requires pressure to expand/retract. If used properly, it works great and makes compressing the pistons extremely easy. A magnetic extension piece snaps on/off for use with 1 and 2+ piston brakes, though it was a bit too thick for my 1 piston rear brakes even at its thinnest setting. Decent, China quality similar to Harbor Freight tools. Probably won’t last long in a mechanics shop, but seems like it will last a while in the typical DIYers garage with some care. Recommend for any brake job DIYer — This tool is much easier than C-Clamps. Especially recommend for larger, 2 or 3 piston setups. Tested on 2016 Subaru WRX (2015-2020 model)

For years o have just used C-Clamps to compress brake cylinder pistons. Truthfully I bought this as an impulse buy. After having used it though it works very well, a handy tool and easy to use. A great addition for the home mechanic. My only negative comment is that they could use a stronger magnet to hold the oversized plates for 2 piston compression, but it works very well regardless.
