I tested this thermometer by comparing it to others in the house including our thermostat. The others read 70 degrees while this reads 68 degrees. Not a big difference but why is it not the same. The big factor for me is this thermometer only goes up to 120 F. This is ok for tracking cooling work but not for heating grains. I didn’t notice this when I ordered because all other homebrew thermometers I have ever had go up to 220 F. This allows the thermometer to be used for both heating and cooling purposes. It was my fault that I didn’t read the write-up close enough. But I wonder why someone makes a homebrewing thermometer that only goes up to 120 degrees F.Update - the vendor reached out to me quickly to see if there was anything they could do to fix the issue I created by not reading the description closely. They also offered a refund but since I obtained the item via the Vine Program, that was not necessary. They did indicate that they would update the description which they appear to have already done. I’m adding a star to reflect this vendor’s excellent customer service.

This thermometer is perfect for my basic need. I use this to regulate water temperature when I have to clean my ears. With an ear lavage, it’s very important to rinse your ears with water that is close to body temperature. (98.6F) Any colder and it can cause dizziness and any hotter, well obviously it can burn your ears. So the range on this is fine for me.It seems accurate to within a .5 degree F. Before using it, I took it out of the storage sleeve and put it next to my Google Nest thermostat and it read the same. This was just the ambient air temperature. For the second test, I poured 500mL of hot water in a glass Pyrex measuring bowl. I used my infrared thermometer and it read 113.6 degrees. Then I put this thermometer in the water and after waiting about 30 seconds, the temp on this thermometer looked like it was at 113, maybe a tad higher. So to me, this seems pretty accurate. It’s certainly accurate enough for what I’m using it for.It comes in a reusable, plastic storage sleeve wrapped in bubble wrap, packed in a box labeled “Fragile”. The bottom of the thermometer is weighted and the top has a silicone cap with an “eye” hole to tie a rope, string, wire, etc through it for easy retrieval.Overall I’m very satisfied with this product and would definitely recommend it!

My review is going to be short since the thermometer slipped out of my hands and broke before I was able to fully use it. There was small shards of glass all over my kitchen floor.Once I cleaned up the glass and made sure there wasn't any glass attached to the thermometer itself, I was able to test the temperature of the milk that I needed to use for my recipe.I'm taking one star away is because instead of the thermometer being encased in glass, it could have been encased in a type of plastic that can be used for heating. Otherwise, I was still able to use it to get a quick reading of the temperature of the milk I was using for my recipe.

Noting ruins a brew day like faulty equipment - electronic thermometers are a must for precision, automation and alarms; however, electronics don't mix well with wort and batteries go dead and then you're out of luck. When I first started brewing I used these floating style thermometers exclusively and using this one takes me back. I always like having one around as a back up and usually leave it floating in my HLT so it's ready to go in case disaster strikes. My last one broke and I've been keeping my eye out for a good replacement - this one is compact, comes with a storage case and is easy to read. Fahrenheit only (in case that matters). Recommended to ensure a successful brew day!

This is a very nice, well-made floating thermometer that I got for brewing beer. I love that it can float in the wort and is easily readable by lifting it up from the rubber top that stays above the liquid. I like this floating style much better than thermometers with clips. That said, its temperature range is very limited. You will only be able to use this for cooled wort or other near-room-temperature liquids. I'd prefer one that is built the same but has a wider temperature range.

I ordered this thermometer to use in my home brewing endeavors. Specifically for use in monitoring the temp during fermentation. The thermometer if made with glass that is nice and thick. There is a good amount of weight to the thermometer and is still balanced well so it can float. The accuracy is within half a degree. The numbers and lines are large enough to see while it’s floating. Excellent value for a top of the line thermometer.
