Some of the negative reviews made us hesitant to buy this green "Freight Battery Engine" train for our young child who loves his Brio style trains and tracks. After researching a lot this one seemed like the best choice, regardless, and we got it for him for Christmas. This train has been so great! It's exactly what you would expect from Brio: solid, dependable, fun. The train pulls 3-4 cars easily over hills on the track and can pull 10+ cars around the flats, it doesn't move fast but it keeps on chugging along and never gives up. It's been treated pretty roughly with no problems and we haven't even had to change the battery yet (great battery life). Overall, I don't know if Amazon has some counterfeit ones in the mix or some reviewers just have unrealistic expectations, but this train has been great! Our son loves it.

My son absolutely loves this train. It is nice because you can connect it to another motorized train engine to get more power for a longer train and more hills/bridges/levels; the magnet on the front and back is excellent. The drive wheels are rubber which works well for traction. The switch on the top could have certainly been easier to use for 3 year-olds. When you push the button, it takes quite a bit of force and puts extra wear on the rubber wheels and battery. The battery lasts longer than another motorized engine that we have and it is slightly slower. This is definitely a toy that gets a lot of ongoing use while the kids make new tracks. Much better toy to buy than most which kids play with while they're new and then forget about them.I highly recommend this. I love to play with it too!

This is such a nice toy. We saw it originally in a toy shop in Switzerland for 3 times the price! It works really well and can successfully pull up to 2 trains behind on an incline and 4-5 trains on a flat track at full battery power. To engage you just press down the black button on top to the front and to shut off press to the back of train. There is a tiny little light as well. It also works very well off track and is compatible with wooden train sets and magnetic trains. (standard size). This was really a great investment and would also work well if you wanted to create winter scenes around a Christmas tree. It is also rather kid proof. Can`t say more! I can`t think of any negatives other than you need a a little screwdriver to change the battery. But it is better than a child being able to open it!

My three year old son loves this train. It's fun to play with, but isn't perfect. What's great:- it only takes one AA battery which is relatively easy to change as well.- the led light is cute- it's powerful enough to pull a longish trainWhat could be better:- the buttons are not easy to push for little ones- the train is taller than many bridges and tunnels in the standard brio set- it often gets caught on downhill and uphill climbs- only one axel spins so it sometimes needs to be reversed to climb hills or pull certain trains- a bit overpriced for what you getThe other thing I'll mention that didn't occur to me - part of the magic of Brio is the imagination of pulling the trains yourself. I've found that once I introduced the battery engine, my son stopped using his old engines. This could be the novelty of the new engine at work, but it may be something to consider because unpowered brio are so delightful as-is. I have a feeling that once you introduce powered trains there is no going back.

This engine is not the fastest - in fact it's quite slow. It's not the prettiest. It's not the most powerful. The switch on the top is a little fiddly. But there is one big plus compared to other battery engine - it has a magnet connector on the front of it. This means that not only can it pull cars around a track, but it can also also push, or in our case assist another battery train. My kids love to use another battery engine at the front of the train and then use this freight engine at the back to help the front engine get a large number of cars around the track, or up and over hills. It really works well. You can also arrange this engine in the middle of the train, having it assist by both pushing and pulling at the same time. You could also use a series of them throughout a really long train if you wanted.

Battery operated engine is every Brio kid's dream. Just like in the video of "Jake's Trains" and my grandson loves it.

As a mom to five little ones, our Brio train set and all of its accessories have been our MOST used and MOST loved toy ever. I have a 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 year old and some one is ALWAYS creatively building and playing with the train set. The accessories are SO high quality and durable and well worth the price. The perfect gift!

For the price there really nothing special about it other than the fact that it’s got magnets in both sides. So if you want to use it with other battery operated trains to pull a bunch of cargo trains (that’s what I’m doing), then I guess it’s fine. If I could find other ones half the price with magnets on both sides I’d return it.
