Used these to add extra support to my awning after a heavy snow to help distribute the load. Worked great. The spring clamp adjustment at the top is very strong. Once I got the pole height set, it was able to push up the awning back to level just by squeezing the top adjustment. Ordered 2 more so I have 4 for heavy snows.

I ordered these support poles to help me install 18 new cabinets in my workshop. With these poles I was able to install all upper cabinets without help. They performed as advertised and I especially liked the capability to raise the item being supported in small increments. When lowering an item being supported there is no control other than using the release lever which drops the pole pads to its starting position. The raise feature (Cranking up) allowed me to carefully align the bottom of each cabinet installed. The only minor difficulty I found in using these poles was attaching the pads to each end of the pole. These pads do not snap on easily. I had to use a mallet to hammer the pads into the circular ball receiver.

INTRODUCTIONI don’t how often in the past I’ve stacked shims and lengths of wood (and sometimes cartons) to temporarily support a shelf or other item that I was installing in an elevated position, for lack of a third hand. I now have a mechanical third hand — and a mechanical fourth hand if needed.MY FIRST USEI needed one of these two poles the day after I received it; I used it to temporarily support a wooden bracket for hanging an axial fan while positioning it against and screwing it into the garage ceiling — elevated 9 ½ feet off the floor. See the attached photo. The ceiling was so high that even with this aid device I had to place two pieces of 2 x 6 lumber under the foot of the pole to close the gap. HUGE help, especially considering that the availability of a HUMAN third hand at those heights would have been problematic. (No room for or availability of a second ladder.)SOME CHARACTERISTICSThese ‘third hand’ support poles seem to be fairly well-made — although the top end bottom support pieces and joint sleeves are made of plastic. These plastic support feet snap on the ends of round-ball ball shaped fittings at the tops and bottoms of the pole; this once-and-forever-done installation requires a slightly uncomfortable bit of force, but ultimately no problem. The resulting ball-and-socket ends implicitly compensate for misalignment between the floor and the item being supported. (I had some concern that the plastic might not be tough enough, but it seems to be rather strong.) The metal tension-release tab seems to allow at least one small increment of third-section tension reduction without releasing all of the tension. The Amazon page for this product seems to indicate that these poles are made from stainless steel —though, frankly, I’ve learned that Amazon material specifications are often incorrect. The poles are definitely not made from 300-series nonmagnetic stainless steel; they are quite strongly attracted to magnets. However, unless a user’s application requires leaving the poles outside in weather for an extended period of time, the difference in performance between carbon steel poles and stainless steel poles may be irrelevant. The poles seem adequately strong without being uncomfortably heavy to carry and manipulate. The trigger-grip extension and tension adjustment at the top of the orange second section works well to incrementally extend the steel-rod third section to the object being supported. When extended quite tightly against the supported object, that third section tends to bow slightly. In my opinion, however, slight bowing probably is not problematic unless the user is trying to support a load that exceeds the manufacturer-specified maximum support capability for this product.BOTTOM LINEI’m delighted to have these support aids after having to ‘make do‘ with kludged third-hand supports in the past for so many years. Therefore, for now, I’m inclined to rate these devices five stars. However, if I judge that rating too high following subsequent experience with this product, I may modify it in the future.

These are Super Good! I am a Contractor and Business Owner and I come across things like this all the time and I never expect much from them based on historical experiences. These impressed me, literally out of the box. The box was heavy, and as I took the first one out, I felt the heft in it. Then the second….then I felt the smoothness in the hand pump and how good the release worked. Then I grabbed the knob and extended them and it just kept on getting longer and longer and longer…and the inside pole attached to the hand pump is just as long as the outer pole! Impressive! Enough so, that I grabbed a tape measure to see how long they were when I laid them out fully extended on the floor because I ran out of ceiling space. These go from compact to super long! Meaning they are really versatile. I often work alone so having these as a third and fourth hand have been super handy to have around. I also have used them to set up a plastic wall as a barrier between my work and the rest of the client’s house. Worked way better than tape and no risk of ruining any painted surfaces. These have also helped me to mount a tv mount and install a garage wall-hung cabinet. The pads that come with these articulate so there's a ton of angle to work with and they snap on the ends of the poles SOLID so they don't fall off and become an irritant. The outer poles, the knob and the hand pump lever all feel well made, especially for the price point.I would order these again in a heartbeat knowing what I know now. These are a great investment if you work alone a lot or find yourself needing a third or fourth hand. They work really well, hold some good weight and can be angled and accurately adjusted on the way up. These are an A+ in my book and if I didn’t like them, this review would be twice as long with more capital letters in it. These are good for the price point, for real. I like them and I am happy to have them on the truck with me now. It’s like I hired an entire person that I do not have to put on payroll and that I do not have to repeat myself all day long. Win-win!
