Have hard hot-start issues on 6.0L Powerstroke?

  • “Hard hot-start” is one of the more common issues suffered 6.0L Powerstroke owners. These issues are almost always caused by leakage in the engine's high pressure oil system which operates the fuel injectors. Possible leak sites include the high pressure oil pump, IPR Valve, STC connection, Branch pipes, standpipes, oil rail ball tube o-rings, injector inlet seals, etc. If the leak sources is bad enough to prevent the system from building the 520 PSI required, the truck will not start under any condition - hot or cold. Locating the exact source of the leak(s) is the challenge.

Solution -- High Pressure Oil System IPR Air Test Tool

  • With this air test tool kit, you will be able to detect even the smallest leaks! This kit replaces the IPR valve so that the system can be completely sealed and even the smallest leaks can be detected.
  • NO Scan tool or IPR driver tool is required - potentially lower tool investment.
  • No vehicle required - engine builders can quickly verify that an engine has no high pressure oil leaks before installing the engine into the vehicle where repairs are much more difficult.
  • Complete IPR Air Test Tool has the ability to 'air-up' the system and trap the air pressure by closing the shutoff valve allows even the smallest leaks to be detected.

To prevent costly comebacks, we recommend air checking every 6.0L 7.3L for high-pressure oil leaks after any part of the system has been disassembled.

This item is well made and perfect for putting air into the engine to check for leaks of which I confirmed that I had at the dummy plug.

I waited to long to send back. Gauge is cheap. I would not get again.

The shut off valve was extremely rusted and stuck. I didn’t have time to return it, so I had to disassemble it and soak it in penetrant oil. Then I used an adjustable wrench to hold the body and another adjustable wrench to turn the square that holds the handle.
