A small metal chain has many possible uses, but in our extended family the purpose of this chain is constraining billowing drapes and curtains. For this use it is enclosed in the lower hem if the drape. The weight of the chain keeps the drapery in place, whether it is open or closed. For this use it is important that the metal resist rusting (open window + rainstorm + distraction). It must also have no ragged edges since it is necessary that the chain be slipped out easily when the curtain needs washing.
