A lens cap is certainly not a major component of one's camera equipment. However, it's something that can be a nuisance if you have to fumble around to get it to work as it should. I found that the old canon lens caps fell into this category. The new, center pinch caps are much easier for me to use. I no longer smear my UV filter as I struggle to put on the lens cap. The new one is so intuitive to use that I don't even have to think about it.

These caps are kind of pricey, but are certainly better than the originals. They fit a lot more snug, and are much easier to remove and replace than the old style side clip ones. Especially if you have a lens hood on. Point of note, they are a bit thicker so they do make the length of your body a bit longer by a few millimeters.

Great for any lens that has a tulip shade or deep shade that makes it difficult to get the cap off. I have a 77mm for my Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM and this 82mm for my Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM. Works great!

Canon is probably the only camera maker not to have gone to this style of cap a long time ago.The advantage is obvious. when you have a tight lens hood attached, a side grip cap is hard to mount or dismount. On a telephoto lens you previously had to remove the hood before you could attach or remove the cap. as a result, many Canon users bought 3rd party caps.As you might expect, these caps cost more than other caps that have the exact same functionality.
