These are a recent purchase, so my review is based on what came out of the box. I read all of the reviews about smell and oil - so maybe I was overprepared, but I am really pleased with what I received for the price I paid.Were they oily? Yes, but there is also a valid reason for it - and it was very easy to clean off.Do they smell? Yes. I think the lower weight (10s and 15s) were the worst, but again, I expected that and it wasn't as bad as I had read.Are they precise? Probably not, but they are budget. I have not weighed them, but they feel balanced on my barbell, so I take no issue with the fact that there might be some variance.Were they in perfect condition? Almost. One of the 45s had a small dent the size of a finger tip (nothing I feel I need to return over). One of the 10s had a little bit sharper of an edge from the molding (skimmed with a blade and that was remedied). They look great, and the color coded lettering is a fun touch. They all fit properly on the barbell.Once out of the box and bag, I washed with Murphy's Oil Soap, set them outside for the day to air, washed again when they came in. The smell was greatly diminished. I did one more day of this and the smell was almost entirely gone. I have also read that sprinkling baking soda and letting it sit - or spraying/washing with a water/vinegar mix will also help.I have seen many reviews regarding the 10's and 15s being flimsy and breaking easy. They are a 1 inch thick rubber plate - at this price point, structural integrity is probably a mute point, and can be solved by not using them solo.Overall - as a starter set, I am extremely happy with what I received. If that changes over time, then I will update and edit.

These are great for home gym. No smell. They have oily film so wash them with some soap once received. These are excellent weights for the price.

I bought the 190lb set of economy cap bumper plates. The price was crazy good for the quality of these plates. Two of the plates were damaged in shipping. The box was crunched and they had big chunks missing out of them. I contacted CAP Barbell, filled out a form on their website, and they sent replacements for the damaged plates free of charge. They do have a layer of oil on them and stink when you first get them. You have to wipe them off with a wet rag and leave them to air out for a couple days at least but after that they are perfect.

The weights are well made, but they stink and were greasy when you first unbox them. I could actually smell them through the packaging and had to leave them outside overnight for them to off-gas. They were better in the morning, but still had a slight but not over powering odor from the day before.

As some mentioned, the release from the molds is oily and needs wiped off and they took a few days for the "smell" to disappate. Those are minor inconveniences given the quality of the weights. Came well packaged and without damage. Great value and perfect for our home gym.

Weights look nice but they are oily and smell horrible!! I cleaned them multiple times and let them air out for two weeks. When I open my garage door the smell punches you in the face. They smell so bad I had to get rid of them and didn't even get to use them

The weights themselves are nice, seem like a great quality. The smell is absolutely awful. I have washed, scrubbed and aired these outside in the elements for weeks and they still smell of offgassing chemicals.

Some people complain about the smell and oil...I mean your buying big heavy pieces of metal encased in rubber. Get a old tshirt and wipe them down, the smell will disappear in a few weeks.As for the weights they are all in acceptable range of advertised weight. They are Olympic plates and of course will fit olympic bars and equipment. Ive been using them for months and doing deadlifts dropping them and have had zero issues. They do their job at a very very good price.Ignore the people complaining about oil and smell, or spend a lot more money for a different product that will preform exactly the same but might not smell like fresh rubber.
