Method for Troubleshooting the P0420 Indicator Light Fault

Oxygen Sensor

Check the voltage of sensors and whether the oxygen sensor is damaged, and inspect for any faults in the wiring.

Appearance and Sound

When abnormal noise is heard, please check whether the appearance and carrier of the catalytic converter are damaged, blocked, burned, etc.

Exhaust System

Check if there are any faults in the exhaust system, such as exhaust leaks or blockages in the exhaust pipe.

Fault Code

You can use a diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes. After clearing them, restart the vehicle and check the malfunction indicator light.

The Reasons for Initial Failure

Excessive Temperature

If excessive exhaust emissions occur, the HC and CO entering the catalytic converter will undergo transitional oxidation reactions, leading to an excessively high temperature within the catalyst; When a gasoline engine is operating normally, the temperature at the exhaust outlet can reach 1292°F, which may exceed the optimal operating temperature and reduce its lifespan.

Chronic Poisoning

Sulfur(S) and Plumbum (Pb) in gasoline, as well as Phosphorus(P) and Zinc(Zn) in lubricating oil, form oxide particles after combustion in the engine, which adsorb onto the surface of the catalyst. This prevents the catalyst from contacting the exhaust gas, thus losing its catalytic activity.

Surface Carbon

When a car operates at low temperatures for an extended period, the catalytic converter fails to activate. Smoke emitted from the engine will adhere to the surface of the catalyst, preventing it from coming into contact with CO and HC. Over time, this causes the pores of the substrate to become clogged, affecting its conversion efficiency.

Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction

If the fuel contains lead or silicon, it can lead to oxygen sensor poisoning. Additionally, improper usage can cause oxygen sensor carbon buildup, ceramic fracturing, heater resistor wire burnout, internal wiring detachment, and other malfunctions. Oxygen sensor failure can result in improper air-fuel ratio and reduced catalytic converter efficiency.

They wanted 500$ for this part. Buy this part like I did save 350$ and fond out what complete satisfaction feels like. Extremely quiet. It took 12 years for the factor part to go bad. This one has just as much quality put into the design fits perfectly on my 2012 Murano SL AWD.

Excellent build quality and appearance. Time will tell if this is an overall great product but for the cost, it has so far done what I’ve needed. The extra O2 sensor spot wasn’t needed for my application but is there Incase you need it which is nice of the manufacture to have the flexibility. I did paint in high temp silver to hopefully provide and additional salt barrier for PA winters. Will update if needed in the future but overall impressed

This was for my Nissan murano 2010 before I bought the flex pipe, My Car would not go up the hill when I accelerate. I installed this flex pipe and it was good to go. I recommend this piece if your vehicle does not Accelerate to proper RPMs

It’s holding up good but my check engine light came back on and I got another diagnostics test done. The test said it was this part again, so I’m not sure if it’s all good. Also, I tried contacting the seller for warranty details and have yet to receive information.

These arrived quickly however the box was beat up a bit but not horrible. These cats are built BULLET PROOF!!!!! They are very well constructed but they are not exactly the same as the factory cats. Some dimensions such as the thickness of some of the flanges were a bit thicker but not enough to not make the part fit. However the mounting tabs for the factory heat shields were not correct. The tabs needed adjusted and the heat shields needed MAJOR work to fit!As a budget part I would ONLY recommend these knowing adjustments would most likely be needed.

All the tabs to both the heat shield on was welded in the wrong place three of the holes where it bolts to the head and to the exhaust pipe, the threads were messed up so I had to re-tap them and they did not send the correct studs to both the EGR tube and the gaskets were bent out of the box so I had to buy new gaskets. Sorry would have posted the pictures of the shoes but they were on my other phone. This is not recommended for a 2017 Honda pilot
