It's reasonably fast, and the tip is quite thin, and also long enough to get to the center of most normal cuts of meat (about 3 cm or so), and thus there is little worry about draining too many juices from the meat. That said, it's consistently 1° F under the correct temperature (tested with boiling water). That makes essentially no difference in cooking, but for some reason, it annoys me.Either way, I don't have enough need for the 5-6 second read I'll get from a Thermapen, or even a Javelin PRO. As I said above, a 1° difference makes no difference to the cooking, so I can't imagine that either of those is 3-13 times better than this one. If you're a home cook consistently cooking for large parties, or if you're working at a restaurant, maybe that warrants the increased cost. I think this is perfectly suitable for most home cooks. I wouldn't even consider a Thermopop, they're not sold on Amazon, and I'd have to pay extra for two day shipping, which is not something I'm willing to do these days.

I bought this for my wife as a stocking stuffer for Christmas last year. She managed to put our old, cheapie digital thermometer in the dishwasher, and you can probably guess what happened there. So I did some research and found that this thermometer had some good reviews and was a reasonable price (I was willing to pay a few extra bucks to get a good thermometer). So far, this thermometer has been great for basic home use. It seems to have a very nice quality build. It has fast temperature reads and it is easy to use. I haven't tried to submerge the thing or wash it in the dishwasher, but I like the fact that it claims to be waterproof just in case. It does wash easily in the sink with no obvious water intrusion issues so far. I really like how the cover can also be attached to the back of the thermometer, essentially acting as an extension handle. We use the extension for the grill, which can get a little too hot with a short thermometer.Overall, we have been very happy with this purchase and it seems like it will last a long time. Highly Recommended!

I need to preface this review by saying that I have been named the thermometer killer at work due to me killing at least five thermometers since august (February, now). That being said, this one has lasted the longest of all the others. I actually started using an ancient one that was in need of a battery that I found at work. It was fast and easy to read, and it lasted more than a month. Much like most other digital thermometers, after using them regularly, they start to become hard to read and some of the lines that make the numbers don't show (sometimes making you think it is another number). Overall, I love this thermometer. The only knock I can give is that it, like all the others, stopped working for me way too early. This particular Purchase was for another chef that I had borrowed his thermometer and misplaced it. He still has it and is working fine.

This thermometer was great until the battery died (which was pretty quick considering my partner never remembers to shut it off, and I can’t tell whether it has an auto off function but I’d often find it sitting on the counter still on). The enclosure containing the battery is a hassle to unscrew considering the soft plastic becomes stripped almost instantly if you try using a metal screwdriver. I worked with a variety of items until I could get it open and, lo and behold, my replacement battery was the wrong kind (my fault - the customer questions/responses are misleading, but the product description mentions LR44 so I should have looked there). Since the plastic is already stripped, this thing will survive for one more battery at most, so I’m just ordering a different thermometer. Shame that one poorly designed element makes this thing essentially disposable

I bought this thermometer for my parent's house, so they can use it and I can use it when I visit. This thermometer is very easy to use, with a quick read out of the temp. It comes with a cover for the probe, a guide to correct cooking temperatures, and is durable.Quick tip: Never insert the probe all the way to the bottom/pan side of meat. If meat is thin, poke the thermometer into the side instead of the top.I love quick-read thermometers when cooking meat, you never have to cut into meat to see if cooked thru, so the juices stay in!

I only had it for a couple weeks. It suddenly stopped working when I went to temp my strip loins while executing a banquet. I have always used a similar thermometer from Ecolab but I decided to give this one a try. Ecolab’s thermometer would normally last me several years. This one, only a few uses. They told me that I would have to pay to send it back to them for them to either supposedly fix it or replace it. I didn’t agree with having to pay more money to ship an item that only worked for a few uses and was only in my possession for a couple weeks, so it sits on my desk in the kitchen at this time acting as a paperweight. I’m honestly not one to leave a bad review, but I sincerely don’t agree with the business practices in this matter. No, we aren’t talking about an item that costs hundreds of dollars, but it’s the principle that alarms me. When I have a guest who is unhappy with their $80 steak, I replace it free of charge. That’s how I keep my guests coming back. Unfortunately I am currently an unhappy customer at this time and do not recommend purchasing this item.

I was surprised that this thermometer was short but it worked well for the roast that I bought which was 4lbs. Nice and easy to store.
