Celestron has joined forces with master lunar imager Robert Reeves on this new addition to the beloved FirstScope family: the FirstScope Signature Series: Moon by Robert Reeves. This quality Dobsonian-style telescope features a spherical glass mirror with a generous 76mm of aperture. The FirstScope’s wide field-of-view provides bright, sharp views of the Moon’s mountains and craters in crisp detail. You’ll also enjoy using the FirstScope to pan the Milky Way, explore open star clusters, marvel at Saturn’s rings, or view favorite deep-sky objects like the Orion Nebula. This compact, lightweight telescope is an ideal entry-level astronomical telescope. Just remove it from the box, insert an eyepiece, and you’re ready to view. To navigate the sky, simply rotate the azimuth axis in the direction of your desired object. It doesn’t get much simpler or more portable than the FirstScope. Its compact design makes the FirstScope Signature Series easy to take along on your next camping trip, picnic, or hike. When not in use, the FirstScope Signature Series: Moon by Robert Reeves will be a stylish decorative fixture on your bookshelf or desk. Explore the Moon Familiarize yourself with the Moon, our neighboring world. Robert Reeves’ signature FirstScope comes with a custom wrap that highlights 10 lunar features to explore including Tycho, Plato, and Copernicus. Learn more about the Moon with Robert Reeves’ Lunar Landscape eBook which goes into detail about the sizes of craters, how marias are formed, the natural history of the Moon, and other fascinating tidbits. About Robert Reeves Robert Reeves first photographed the Moon in 1959, just as our space program was setting its sights on lunar exploration. Since then, he’s become one of the world’s best lunar imagers and a prolific author on astrophotography. Using Celestron telescopes from his home in Texas, Robert captures more detailed images than professional astronomers could during the heyday of the Apollo missions.

For portability and ease of setup, I don't think this can be beat. My 5 year old loves seeing distant objects but can't stand waiting 20 minutes while I tried to find them in the main scope. Adding a red dot sight means I can find the object in under a minute. I also bought a 2x barlow and a 25mm plossl and found that they improved the viewing experience greatly, as well as adding to the magnification options. All-in, I'm at $130 for an easy to use setup that's really portable and my kid is excited to use. The more-distant objects can be a bit blurry due to the limitations of this size scope, but for viewing the moon, planets, and terrestrial objects, we are having fun.

Nice beginner telescope. Still trying to figure out the best way to use it but so far we were able to see Mars and I suspect we will be able to see the moon well once it's not cloudy out!

I bought this to take on a cruise so wanted something light weight and easy to pack. Was easy to use to view the moon. Not so much for the stars as focus kept being sn issue. While this is meant to be a table top model I also was able to use with one hand as a freehand telescope. For the moon it was fine. The children also enjoyed using this telescope as it was easier to figure out and the viewing aperture was relatively big.All in all I would recommend as a travel.scope or for children to use amongst themselves

For under $100 this scope has a great bang for the buck ratio! You can pay more for a complicated and quality instrument, but for just casualty looking at the Moon or General stargazing and sharing with friends, this type of tabletop scope is a good choice!

It was hard for me, an adult to learn to use. TBD kids enjoyed playing it and looking at the moon.

Short version: Cool for beginners and kids, but not incredibly powerful. Great intro to the night sky, especially for the price.Longer version: I've got to admit, I'm just getting into this...but I'm loving it.I was looking for something that 1) wasn't expensive, 2) could be used by my kids, 3) somewhat portable.Power - I realized it wouldn't be the most powerful telescope, but I wasn't too concerned about that. Moon views are great, and I can see stars a bit closer than naked eye.Price - I felt it was a good value for something to start with. I didn't want to pay $200 and up to find out I wasn't interested. So I'm thankful this was there as an option.Ease of use - I wanted something I could use as well as my kids. I think it's pretty easy to use for the most part. It's tough sometimes to line up on a star, and I don't really know how to adjust magnifications too well, but I'm getting better. My 5 year old daughter enjoys when I focus on the moon and let her look at it. I want to spark her interest, and I'm already seeing her enjoy it.Portability - This is great. I can grab it off the shelf, head outside, and start looking around. No huge setup or anything.Bottom line - I enjoy it. Granted, it's not the most powerful thing. It has, however, confirmed my interest and sparked my daughter's interest in astronomy.*Photo taken with my cell phone by just holding next to the eyepiece.
