Worked 4 times. Then self starting feature failed. Finally purchased the Everest Gyro Ball with a string pull start. The Everest worked best for me.

I worked at a store that sold similar gyro balls so I encountered many different ones over the course of my years there. It's been awhile since I've used one, but this Gyro ball is up there with the best versions I've personally handled. It has solid construction with good density, good grip, quality feeling bearings, and a nice storage case. The LED's are an interesting addition that serve a practical purpose of tracking speed and intensity.Any of them have a learning curve. I think they can technically be spun up to speed using nothing at all but wrist motion, but it would be extremely difficult. Even with a spin start it can take a bit of practice to get the hang of. There are some that have no assist that you have to spin by hand first or run down your leg a few times to start an initial spin, and some that have a pull string that can be awkwardly wound up and pulled. This spring loaded version is easily the most efficient starting mechanism. Once up to speed the gyroscopic forces make it easier to keep up to speed. Slower deliberate rotation can maintain a moderate speed, and faster more focused effort can spin it to highest RPM's, which is difficult to maintain. Some brands I've seen come with chart showing a variety of exercises. This does not, but a quick search comes up with a variety of articles and videos. It's useful, but I find it's much more suited to increasing strength and coordination with wrists forearm and rotator cuff, and strengthening smaller connective tissues . It might also be useful for certain rehab applications, and kids or more diminutive statures might find a use with bicep and deltoid, but for me there's just not enough resistance for much of anything other than smaller muscles and tissues.Even beyond any practical strengthening use though, it still makes for an interesting fidget novelty or toy, once you figure out how to use it.
