This tool does what it is supposed to do but could be better with proper machining. I bought it to chamfer one edge on a box lid and I plan to use it just once in a while in the future. The good: it is metal and has a good weight and a good feel. The chamfer blade was sharp enough to do a small job, but I did hone the blade for a better edge. Not so good: As others have noted, to be satisfactory, one must prep the tool. I had to sand the red paint off the surfaces that would contact my work piece to keep my walnut from turning red. These surfaces should never be painted! Sanding the paint off revealed a surface with many small pits. Better machining of these surfaces would have made the tool much better assuming they were kept paint free. The cutters are easy to change, but the fitting in the tool was quite loose. Tightening the knob on the side of the tool did keep the blade secure but less so the further out the blade was advanced. This tool is okay for an infrequent user, but if one does a lot of chamfering, spend the extra bucks to get a quality tool which is properly machined with better tolerances.

I don’t want to pull out heavy power tools for a small job. Could not find it at any store so bought it through Amazon. Love it

I used it to trim 1 x 4s that had sharp edges. Excellent tool. Very sharp blades with adjustable depth. Just slide it up and down holding it tight and the blades make a real smooth finish.

Tried the plainer already, found you have to take off very small amount each pass otherwise it tries to cut to much then binds up but you will eventually get the wood cut down to the desired look. You will still have to do some sanding to smooth out the rough spots PS. When you want to change to a different bit it’s a real pain cause the Allen wrench that comes with it is so small that it is very hard to unscrew the screws and with me I have reumatoïde arthritis which makes it even harder for to remove screws cause I can’t feel anything in my hands but otherwise t does it’s job

The guide to help position the plane at the right angle (shown in all the photos) was not included.I received a red one, The plane works OK, but leaves red paint on the workpiece, (I'm guessing the blue & black ones will leave similar marks) which then have to be sanded off. I guess the paint finish will eventually wear off with use but it's a bit annoying to use a plane that leaves marks on the workpiece.

Even with the set screw removed, I couldn’t adjust the blade. The adjusting knob (not sure what it’s called) would bind up. I tried several times to adjust the blade to no avail. Thinking there might be a problem with the blade, I removed it and tried another one. The only way I could remove and replace the blade was to take the plane apart. This didn’t solve the problem. The new blade also couldn’t be adjusted. Within an hour of getting the plane, I reboxed it and started the return process.
