Works very well. I just wish the espresso came a little warmer.

My 8-ish yeah old Nespresso machine gave up the ghost, but I had positive experiences with the Chulux Kcup machine so I gave this one a shot and I like it better. It has a bigger used cup reservoir, it's quieter, the mechanism for eject/insert works smoother, and I like that the water reservoir lid comes completely off. Also, the water level adjustment feature seems to work better; on my original machine it kept "forgetting" my lungo setting. So far no complaints. Some people think it's not hot enough, but I think it's subjective really.

I decided to try this espresso machine with the idea that I would only use stainless steel reusable capsules with stick-on aluminum lids and my favorite organic coffee beans instead of purchasing Nespresso capsules. I have another fully automatic espresso machine that doesn’t brew pre-ground coffee well, and I really wanted to stick to my newly found organic coffee. I also strive for a zero-waste household, and using single-use capsules would be a step backward in my environmentally friendly lifestyle. Even though I still use single-use aluminum lids, which is not ideal, it generates less waste than an entire capsule.Another concern is the materials used in standard coffee capsules—aluminum or plastic. Exposing hot beverages to these materials isn't the healthiest option. While the aluminum lids remain an issue, they are preferable to an entire capsule lined with aluminum or plastic. Lastly, from a financial perspective, I’m not willing to pay extra for the convenience of coffee capsules. I’ve been using a super-automatic espresso machine for years, which is both cost-effective and efficient. Switching to more expensive Nespresso capsules doesn’t make much sense for me—I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought pre-packaged coffee. That said, I was excited to have a compact espresso machine that I could use with my preferred coffee brand and even take with me while camping. It took some time to figure out the right amount of coffee to put into the reusable stainless steel capsules—avoiding overfilling, tamping just slightly, and leaving room for the coffee to bloom. Eventually, I got it to the point where the Chulux makes great espressos, but unfortunately, not very consistently. I could be using two reusable capsules, and one would make a full cup of lungo while the other would only fill halfway, with the rest dripping into the bottom tray. Sometimes, I even have to collect the remaining coffee from the drip tray and pour it back into my cup—definitely not the luxurious espresso experience I was hoping for.I suspect the issue lies in whether the capsule positions itself perfectly when loaded, as this affects the seal between the capsule and the brew chamber. There’s no way to control this manually. The Chulux loads reusable capsules without issue, and I’m careful not to jam anything, but the inconsistency is disappointing. I understand this might not be a problem with original Nespresso capsules, which this machine was designed for. Additionally, I noticed a minor water leak on the right side of the machine right after brewing from time to time, just below the brewing mechanism, which is also not ideal. As for the espresso quality, when the machine does brew properly, the espresso tastes great—strong, with a nice foam—even when using the smaller reusable capsules. The brew temperature measures a minimum of 168°F. Measuring it accurately is tricky since the lungo isn’t long enough for my thermometer to fully reach its final reading before the dispensing stops. Of course, the coffee cools a bit when it hits a cold cup, so pre-warming the cup helps maintain a higher temperature for longer. The machine has a preset brewing temperature that cannot be changed, so if you prefer boiling-hot espresso, this is something to consider. The instructions are straightforward, though written in a different order than I’m used to, which might explain why some users found them confusing. The machine has only two buttons, each programmed to perform multiple functions, so reading the manual carefully is crucial. That said, the machine does everything it claims, including adjustable lungo volume. I also like that the cup holder folds up against the machine to accommodate taller cups and save space when not in use—though I wish it stayed folded up better, as it sometimes falls down on its own. On a positive note, I was impressed with how solid the capsule-loading lever and brew unit feel, which adds to the machine’s durability. What I would love to see more of is the espresso machine's water container, brewing unit, and dispensing nozzle made of stainless steel instead of plastic. Stainless steel would not only improve durability but also offer a healthier alternative by reducing potential plastic exposure in high-heat environments.Overall, I wish the Chulux espresso machine was less temperamental with reusable coffee capsules and provided consistently great brews—something it does achieve when the capsules align just right. However, for my purposes, this isn't the experience I was hoping for. Perhaps this isn’t an issue with original Nespresso capsules, but since I’m not willing to buy them regularly, this machine may not be the best fit for my needs.

A fair amount of water seems to bypass the capsule when brewing, collecting in the lower tray. Some water always goes around the capsule instead of through so I’m not getting as much espresso as I should in my cup. I have to empty the overflow tray at the bottom all the time. The machine definitely works and makes coffee, so it does its job, but it doesn’t taste quite as good as when the same capsules are used in the original Nespresso machine (which I have at work). I don’t know exactly why. I guess you get what you pay for. I bought this machine on sale and it’s functional. It makes ok espresso in my cup, and a watery mess in the bottom collection tray. That’s the best I can say for it.

This is a good value for a basic espresso machine that uses Nespresso capsules. I would not try other capsules, but Nespresso are the gold standard anyway. You can afford to buy them because you are saving a lot on this machine. It works as well as a comparable Nespresso brand machine. I do not experience any leaking; I think there may be some quality control issues, but customer service is very good. The temperature of the espresso may not be hot enough for some, but the flavor is excellent and I feel it is comparable in temp with my large, semi-commercial machine that I use with freshly ground beans.

I decided to give this product a try despite reading reviews mentioning it arrived used. Unfortunately, when I finally got around to using it, I discovered it was indeed used, with coffee molds on the back of the inner part (as shown in the picture). This is unacceptable. I’m returning it and am very disappointed.
