These were bought as replacement for old emergency lights that looked the same,but... these new models use a much smaller battery, and they must be wired up to a wall box to work. They do come with a choice of voltage input (120 or I think 277 V?) They won't work if you just hook up the battery inside (it comes disconnected) and then you push the test button. For some reason, I had to first power up with source voltage to make them work with the test button. You have to HAVE power to remove it to test!
