I needed a device to allow use of my USB midi keyboard in conjunction with other midi hardware without using a computer "host" and this little baby is the answer! Much more than a host converter, it allows custom routing of inputs to outputs, custom mapping, custom filtering and is way more expandable than I can foresee ever needing. For example, I needed to control a Yamaha USB midi keyboard and a standard midi micro synthesizer from my electronic drums. I first downloaded and installed the latest firmware. Then set up routing from midi input 1 to midi out 1 and also usb A out. This allowed me to link all 3 devices coming from the E-drums, without any latency. Next, I had to map the channel coming out of the drums (midi channel 10 only) to another channel (I used 13) to accommodate the Yamaha usb configuration (channel 10 on the Yamaha is drums, but I already had drums and wanted to layer string sounds on top of the drums and midi synth sounds. This baby performed like a champ. That ended up being preset 1. There are 3 more routing/mapping/filtering presets to accommodate the reverse order of things in any configuration I can dream up. Plus the presets can be saved off to your computer to be recalled later. Heck, I can even route the drum output signal back into the drum control module to utilize the other GM instrument sounds, all while playing the drums. This is a one of a kind winner in my book. Thank you CME-pro for a great solution!

What an awesome product. I've purchased several of CME's MIDI products for my set-up and I've been happy with all of them. I dinged them on this one only because the documention for this one is a little light. Mostly for how to use the HXTools as some of the feaI scoured the Internet even looking for content and even that was lacking for this one.

I made the mistake of buying some Source Audio effects pedals for my pedalboard. On one hand they're the coolest pedals on my board.. On the other hand.. they're kind of a pain to work with. They require a USB Host for midi over USB, or this thing called a "Neurohub" which I was getting along with until I added their Ultrawave distortion pedal to my board and it threw a wrench in the setup while single handedly being the coolest effects pedal I've ever played with.I'd been wondering what to do for at least a year at this point when google pointed me to the CME H4 Midi, which someone got me for a Christmas gift from Amazon. Yesterday The H4 Midi arrived, and I had an old $20 usb 2.0 7 port hub laying around. I velcroed both to the underside of my pedalboard. The H4midi is powered by a 5v usb port on my Cioks DC7, my USB hub is bus-powered by the H4 Midi.I had to plug the h4 midi into my computer just once to manually route the I/O, but it saw all four of my Source Audio pedals and I don't need to plug the h4 midi into the computer again. It will not send midi over usb to something like my HX Stomp XL, because the Stomp also acts as an audio interface but it does allow me to send midi from the 5 pin din of my Stomp XL to the midi class compliant USB ports of my Source Audio pedals.I ordered a 1x2 USB switch to put between my USB hub and H4 midi so that I can easily connect the USB hub to my computer for tweaking presets, or if i need my Stomp XL as an audio interface.I'm not sure when this thing was released. I'm just glad it was. The crazy thing? It does so much more than what i needed it for. I just needed it's capability to convert 5pin to USB and be a USB midi host. It also has complex filtering capabilities, mapping.. powerful unit, a lot of bang for that buck.

I have 5 other midi host boxes that work perfectly. I bought this one because it is small and compact. Unfortunately it does not work. I unplugged the midi cables from one of my other midi host boxes and plugged this one in. All the lights come on, but no signal. This box may work fine with Windows and IOS, but as a simple host box to connect a USB midi keyboard to a midi synthesiser, it doesn't work at all. I went to the manufacturer's website to read the manual and I looked for troubleshooting help, but there was no mention of what to do if it doesn't work. Maybe this unit is defective and other units work. Anyway, I'm sending it back to Amazon for a refund.

I only had two devices to connect; an old Softstep pedal and a Neural Quad Cortex Guitar Amp and FX. But it was a big question mark to me as to how to get the two devices to communicate without my laptop and MIDI-OX.I spent about 3 minutes reading the manual for the CME H2MIDI Pro and it seemed promising. Sure enough all I did was use the USB on the CME to plugin the SoftStep and the MIDI out to connect it to the QC. It worked right off.
