About this item

  • A spoilboard is a disposable workbench mounted above the router's table. It can protect the router table from damage as well as being an expendable surface that can participate in workholding.
  • Material: MDF (Medium-Density Fibreboard). MDF is very dense translating into more weight with enhanced strength and durability. Size is 30 x 18 x 1.2cm (11-4/5''x 7''x 1/2'')
  • Compatibility: Perfectly compatible with 3018 series CNC router kit.
  • Application: Usually used when cutting or carving wooden materials. The MDF spoilboard is used as a base to cut on so that your CNC table is not damaged by the cutting tools. It can ensure the stability of the cutting material, thereby achieving more precise cutting.
  • Easy to Use: Easy to install the spoilboard with pre-installed threaded holes (6mm) for fixture clamps. Can be used with most bench clamping systems.

Genmitsu MDF Spoilboard for 3018

Precautions

  • Make sure the MDF spoilboard is secured well to the machine bed.
  • Make sure the CNC material is clamped tight to the MDF spoilboard / machine bed, or you will get vibration, chatter, poor cut finish, and can possibly break your cutting bit.
  • Do not use any lubricant when you use an MDF spoilboard. It will swell and expand if it gets wet. So using spray or mist coolant or oils is not recommended.

Why Choose Genmitsu

  • High quality, high precision products
  • Always professional technical support
  • Full collection of CNC accessories, always design to suit your need

Installation Guide

2

Preparing your Spoilboard

  • When your spoilboard arrives, it should come with everything you need to be installed. In order to check, please compare the bottom of your spoilboard to the one shown above.
  • Assuming that your spoilboard looks like the above, you will want to partially unscrew the 6 T nuts shown above so that there will be some room for them to shift properly as you tighten them during installation.

3

Installation

  • Next, you will want to align the T Nuts so that they will be able to fit into the slots on your CNC bed. It is best to do so while the board is oriented for installation. Please see image 2 for what will fit (circled in green) versus what orientations will not fit (circled in red).
  • With the spoilboard in place, tighten the hex screws as far as they will go without over-tightening. As you do so, each T nut will rotate and clamp into place, securing your spoilboard to the CNC bed.

4

Enjoy Making

  • Once you have done so, try lifting your spoilboard at each corner to make sure that all T slot nuts have properly anchored to the bed.
  • The spoilboard has been successfully installed, now you can enjoy making!

Overall a decent board, will do the job, nice and lightweight so it wont slow down table movement, but should have been engineered to be reversible so you could use both sides once one side gets too used by overrunning bits. For this reason, it should be $5-$10 cheaper since only one side can be used.

Form, fit and function was perfect for generic 3018.

I'm really new to this stuff, I only bought the spoilboard because the YT tutorial I was following suggested it. The main thing I didn't realize is that you can't surface this entire board in one go using the 3018. I fully assumed you could, but my YT 'instructor' had a spoilboard than his aluminum bed. This can get close, but you'll have to manually move it to get the edges. Further, I don't even know that surfacing it was required. If I could give my beginner-self advice; skip this until you need it for something specific. You'll save money on this and a special bit for it.Once I ditched this board and started just messing around I found that the T nuts were easier to get things attached to the bed anyway. Further, using the spoilboard's mounts with the additional height, I crashed my bit into them more than a few times - once actually starting to rip the nut out of the MDF.Long story short: if you know you need this, get it. It's a good value for what you get, I just happened to not need it yet (or maybe at all).

Perfectly dimensioned so no worries about having to surface it. Gives you alot of options for hold downs. Takes out all the guess work of making your own. Only negative is the price point.

Just started using this yesterday, so, I don't have too much to say. However, it arrived quickly and in perfect shape. It removed all the issues related to making your own spoil board. Thanks for making this available!

this spoil-board is great has numerous threaded insets for hold down clamps to hold project securely and super easy to install on 3018. I love mine and am using it every day for some kind of project.

I bought this to use with a Genmitsu 3018 ProVer V2 (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BGLC3R1D). The V2 has a solid aluminum baseplate with holes instead of T-slots, and the holes are a slightly different pattern than this spoilboard, so there's no way to screw the spoilboard to the bed. At work I have a ProVer V1, and this spoilboard works fine with that.
