I did a lot of research on marine radios and based on features and reviews decided on this one. The radio comes with everything you need to get up and running including a good user's manual, a quality charger, belt clip, and lanyard. I mounted the charger in our boat with the supplied screws and the included 12v cord.I used the radio to monitor channel 16 and the weather alert channels for several days out on the lake. I heard some radio chatter and also received a few weather alerts while monitoring channel 16. The weather alert feature is loud and works well. I have had brief conversations with other boaters and have found the range to be acceptable. After four full days of boating on a single charge the battery indicator still read full. It is easy to use and feels like a quality product. Note, though, that this radio does not have the GPS/Bluetooth modules with the DSC/MMSI functionality for broadcasting emergency messages to the USCG. If you boat on large lakes or offshore, the upgrade to Cobra's MR HH600 FLT GPS BT model is worth it. Recommended for leisure boaters on small bodies of water to have in case of emergency.

Cobra makes good stuff. There is a lot of options and functions with the 500 series. So the manual comes in very handy.

Batteries last forever on a charge it seems like. We use them for hunting and can talk good distances and it is very clear. Great value

This is a great and affordable marine radio. It floats, which is a huge plus, and also the reason why I only gave it 4 stars.My first time out it slipped out the belt clip and fortunately another angler found it floating by and returned it.That said, I store it in a better place on my kayak so this doesn’t happen again, because if I ever need it, I need to be sure it’s still right where I left it.For inshore, nearshore, or offshore boating or angling, it could save your life!

I purchased this radio for my boat. Of course I purchased it after my boat broke down with not so great cell service. I would recommend this radio as it's compact yet has several useful features. Get it before you need to be rescued!

Well made, intuitive features and a readable keypad. A good range for a radio of this size. However, the volume, tuned up to the maximum, is barely audible on a open decked outboard at cruise. The microphone jack is very, VERY specific to Cobra brand radios, which I can expect, but not available on Amazon. I had to go to Bass Pro Shops and buy the external microphone/speaker from Cobra for about $60, (which is very nice, by the way.) Which makes this over a $200 radio. I would recommend this radio, but not without the external microphone. Unless you're kayaking. Fair winds and Following seas.
