Trusted by parents and recommended by healthcare professionals for over twenty years, Colief Infant Digestive Aid contains lactase enzyme and can be used every time you feed your baby, either in expressed breast milk or infant formula. At around three to four months a baby’s digestive system will naturally cope better with lactose and usually symptoms will disappear. *Please note that Colief Infant Digestive Aid and Colief Infant Drops are the same product, formulated with the same ingredients. Colief Infant Digestive Aid is the name used in the United States, while Colief Infant Drops is the name used in the United Kingdom.

Colic is defined as a baby crying for: more than 3 hours a day, 3 days a week, for 3 weeks

What is Colic?

Colic is defined as repeated episodes of excessive and inconsolable crying in a new-born baby who otherwise appears to be perfectly healthy. The condition can affect up to one in five babies, typically observed in babies under 5 months. Colic episodes often occur in the late afternoon or evening and can last for several hours.

It's important to note that colic is a temporary condition and does not cause any long-term harm to the baby's health or development. While the exact cause of colic is unknown, some theories suggest that it could be related to gastrointestinal discomfort, immaturity of the baby's digestive system, sensitivity to certain foods, or overstimulation. However, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying medical conditions that may be causing the excessive crying.

Soothing Your Baby’s Pain

It can be very upsetting, not to mention tiring, when your baby seems distressed and constantly cries. Although it seems worrying, colic is common in babies and is not harmful, your baby will continue to feed and gain weight normally. There is no evidence to suggest that colic has any long-term effects on a baby’s health.

Colic can have a number of causes. In some cases, it is caused by temporary lactose intolerance. This is when babies are unable to fully break down the lactose in breast milk and infant formula.

Colief Drops have been recommended by healthcare professionals and trusted by parents for over two decades. Typically, at around three to four months, most babies’ digestive systems will naturally adjust to lactose and colicky symptoms will resolve on their own. However, if your baby is still experiencing colicky symptoms, you can continue to use Colief Drops for as long as necessary.

Top Tips For Dealing With Colic

White noise

White noise:

Create a soothing environment by using white noise machines, fans, or playing soft music. These sounds can help distract your baby from discomfort and promote relaxation

Baby Massage

Baby Massage:

Gentle massage techniques can promote relaxation in infants and help calm their nervous system. The soothing touch and rhythmic movements of massage can have a calming effect on a colicky baby, reducing stress and tension. Certain massage techniques, such as gentle strokes on the abdomen in a clockwise direction, can aid in relieving wind and promoting better digestion. This can help alleviate the gastrointestinal discomfort that often accompanies colic

Create a calm environment

Create a calm environment:

Limit exposure to loud noises, bright lights, or overstimulation, as these factors can exacerbate colic symptoms. Establish a peaceful and quiet space for your baby.

Soothing techniques:

Soothing techniques:

Introduce a soothing routine around the time of the day when your baby’s colic is usually at its worst, this is typically in the evenings. You can try different calming techniques such as gentle rocking, swaying, or carrying your baby in a baby sling. Some infants find comfort in rhythmic movements.

My lactation consultant suggested these drops because I have a fast let down and a large volume of milk, which means that sometimes my baby gets a lot of foremilk, which moves through the digestive system quickly, as it is thin, and the body can't always make enough enzymes to digest it in time. I bought the drops, gave it a try and after a while decided to back off, in case it was just snake oil! Within a day, my sweet baby was fussy, not sleeping well and overall so unhappy. My husband kept saying, it's his stomach... Did you try something new? Eat a food you haven't had in a while? That's when I realized that I had phased him off the drops and it made all the difference. This is my third child and wished I had known about these drops with my first two. We keep the droppers everywhere, in the diaper bag, in the nursery, I even tuck the bottle into my bra when we are out and about. I squirt 4 drops directly into his mouth (I do not do as the directions advise, which is to express milk, stir in drops, then spoon feed the baby the blend... That would be insanely difficult to maneuver with a hungry, crying baby in your arms). I also do not refrigerate, but don't leave it exposed to excessive heat, and it works well every time. This is such an amazing product. Thank you!

If you’re dealing with colic you probably need this. My daughter would not sleep longer than 30 mins and would scream when she was awake. We tried everything: swaddling, gripe water, probiotics, the windis, massaging, reflexology, different burping techniques, gas drops, etc! Nothing worked! My husband and I were so stressed we were fighting constantly, my baby blues was extremely intensified I would cry constantly. I started researching and thought my breastfed baby might have a intolerance to lactose (no matter if you consume dairy or not there’s still lactose in breast milk). All the symptoms lined up so I said why not try it, the first night she slept 3 consecutive hours and it felt like a miracle. We are on day 4 and I am thanking the lord above for this product because it saved my sanity and allowed me to sleep and actually bond better with my baby. She’s not in pain anymore. She still has a few moments when she’s fussy but it’s decreased by 95% so that’s a WIN. Also when they have lactose intolerance they might have a diaper rash that seems impossible to rid of due to the acidic nature of the poo and my little one had it we changed her constantly and it was not going anywhere! Since we started these drops it’s made her poo less acidic and the rash is gone! Idk why this isn’t talked about more amoung moms or drs or even social media.

*I'm writing a review from my husband's accound*Buy these and try them!!! You will see instant (first feed/less than 24 hours) results for breastfed lactose sensitive babies!!!I have had to use these drops now for the second time with my newborns. I exclusively breastfeed on demand and I mix the drops with pumped milk prior to every feed. Yes, this can be annoying but for the babies comfort its worth it. From the first feeding and throughout the day I could tell a HUGE difference in my newborn. My newborn was allowing me to put her down, not be so fussy, sleep longer stretches, not have so many loose stools daily, and her bloating went down. Prior to this I was giving gas drops every 2 hours, gripe water, gerber probiotics(still do these), and the windi. I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT MORE!

This item is listed incorrectly with an incorrect description and incorrectly priced. The 3 pack is NOT 1.5 oz/15 ml per bottle, those are the 7 ml bottles. I purchased it around 8 times for my twins thinking it was the 1.5 oz as listed in the description. The picture shows 7 ml though and that's what you actually receive. So it is cheaper and lasts longer if you just purchase the 1.5 oz individually rather than the 3 pack which has you pay more for less.

I'm not really sure that I noticed any appreciable difference using this product, but every baby is different. Mine had awful gas/colic and constipation for the first 7-8 weeks. We tried everything, including Simethicone gas drops in every bottle, Culturelle, gripe water, Dr. Brown's gripe belt, Windi straws, bicycle kicks, and Gentlease formula. Nothing helped. We couldn't be sure whether or not baby had a lactose intolerance, but we gave this a try anyway. I had low supply and was supplementing, so I added it to both my breast milk and his Gentlease until we ran out (at which point I switched to an actual lactose sensitivity formula, which really did seem to help, but the Colief alone did not).I didn't ask my pediatrician if it was okay to use this, though she did tell me it was okay to use probiotics, and since lactase is a natural enzyme, I felt comfortable using it. Reviewers complaining about how quickly it expires -- again, it's a natural enzyme that breaks down over time. That's just the way it is. Write the expiration date on your bottle and toss it when that day comes. Not worth taking any chances with your baby.As with all things when it comes to colic, it's hard to pinpoint whether any solution is actually effective other than time. For me, Colief was not the miracle cure that some reviewers claimed, but then neither was Culturelle. I can say what did seem to help my newborn was switching to an actual lactose-sensitivity formula. I understand this is not a helpful solution for EBF babies with colic, so I say you have nothing to lose by trying this. My baby eventually grew out of his colic around 7-8 weeks, but I still use the generic Sam's Club version of Similac Pro-sensitive and he rarely has troubles with gas anymore (he's 10 weeks now).Hang in there! Colic doesn't last forever.
