Sometimes referred to as combiners or splitters, these duplexers are basically band-pass filters, simultaneously passing RF in both directions through the common connector, while the band-pass filters provide a high degree of isolation between ports. This is in my mobile with a Comet UHV6 and the antenna has a single cable to the radio but the radio has inputs for two antennas - HF and 2/70. So this diplexer separates the two levels of signal. It has worked for a contact at over 500 miles (14 meter) mobile.
