This is a great hat, very warm and soft. The side (ear flaps) easily fold up or down to full ear covering. The inside of the hat is nicely insulated and comfortable for all day use if necessary. We successfully used this hat to 10 Fahrenheit with no issues and found it to be quite warm. The overall build is sturdy and had no issues keeping up with my preteen child.We have not washed it yet, but it does seem like a hand wash only item to prevent any loosening of fur and fabric.It gets a 4 out of 5 because we originally purchased this product for my husband hoping it would be large enough. It is not large enough to fit large heads comfortably, it is great for kids or small adults only, very snug for full size heads.

The materials are right - nylon shell to stop wind, synthetic fur for warmth.But the ear flaps don't fit close to the sides of your face - allow even a slight cold breeze to reach all the way to the back of your neck. And there is no insulation for your ears.

Paired with my ski mask and goggles, it keeps my head and face completely dry while plowing the driveway. I am not sure what the things that stick out on the ears are, but they do not take away from the heat of my ears. Altogether a solid hat.
